Week 3: Tennessee Titans vs. New York Jets

Post#1 » by zilby » Wed Sep 23, 2009 12:21 pm

so um its the Tennessee Titans vs. New York Jets in Week 3.

The QB matchup should be Kellen Clemens/Mark Sanchez vs. Kerry Collins/Vince Young.

On Defense, the matchup is Rhodes, Ellis, Revis and Gholston vs. Griffin, Tulloch, Kearse and Harper.

also, lets try and recruit more people to the board so it does better and it is active enough.

GO JETS!

Sorry but what does your matchups mean?!? There's no way in hell Kellen Clemens plays a down unless Sanchez gets injured and I would say the same goes for Vince Young. On defense there are a lot more players of importance. No offense but I don't understand why you only posted some random defensive players names...

Here are my keys to victory for the Jets:
- Be ready. After the emotional NE win there might be a letdown and Ryan has to have his team completely focused against a good Titans team.
- Limit Chris Johnson. He is the one guy who can really do something out of the ordinary for the Titans offense and we have to stop him from turning the corner or getting into the open field.
- Get pressure on Kerry Collins. He's another pure pocket QB who struggles mightily with pressure. I expect a lot of blitzing up the middle and a very aggressive Kris Jenkins early on.
- Attack the Titans secondary. Their pass defense has been bad this year and they have problems to generate pressure. Keller, Stuckey and Cotchery have to work the middle of the field again.

Some other notes:
- Against NE we came out with a 3-3-5 alignment which gave us an additional DB against their spread formations. I expect us to come out with a normal 3-4 this time so guys like Gholston, Westerman or Murrell should see some more time this week. I also expect Ryan to activate either DeVito or Pitoitua if not both because it should be a physical battle in the trenches against strong Titans lines on both sides of the ball.
- Tennessee's best weapon outside of Johnson is their short passing game to the TEs and on shorter routes. We looked great covering the intermediate stuff against NE and their starting TE Scaife is questionable. Hopefully Donald Strickland is fine and can go on Sunday, he was one of the stars against NE.
- The Jets have to be extremely careful defending the run. Against the Pats there were numerous situations where the defender didn't hold the edge and the running back bounced the play outside. That's deadly against Johnson who would make you pay unlike Fred Taylor or Maroney. Our OLB and DE have to set the edge and give other guys a chance to make the play on the runner.
- Our running game has been shaky so far this year and in Tennessee we face a strong run D. With big guys like Jones, Brown or Vickerson up the middle and a strong LB group they excel against the run and we will have to be patient in our run first approach. The offense has to stay balanced in order to have success over the course of the game.
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

Defense Baby! Blitz that former Giants QB. Put the pressure on them from the get go and let the offense get in rhythm in the 2nd half. I hope that Mark Sanchez continues to show some improvement.

I agree these are the main things tho. Especially on defense i saw fred taylor get some runs on us bouncing outside...we must either penetrate completely into the backfield...or play contain on the outside.

Strickland and Sheppard are out for this game. It will really give us a look at how deep our secondary really is. Lowery will play on the outside and we will have Coleman and one of the safeties (Leonhard or Smith) covering the slot. I'm really not that confident about that but what can you do. Strickland has been great in the first two games, really, not only "good backup good" if you know what I mean but a true game changer. Having someone like him covering the slot and making big plays around the box is huge in this pass happy league.

I expect to see a lot more from our DLine. I think we will return to a traditional 3-4 front as our base formation (and then go from there to our blitz schemes and 4-3 looks) in order to contain the run game and to get pressure on Collins. Hopefully Gholston can bring something to the table...

Great special teams today again, Weatherford doing a solid job too...

Sanchez no matter if he had the trouble in the middle of the game, just is the real deal...

Im telling you we have a really great defense on this team. They bailed out Sanchez's rookie mistakes all season. This is great. Special Teams is always on top of things (except that bad 23 yard punt towards the end of the game), but our d really changed the game. They finally got pressure on collins and got some sacks in the 2nd half a complete difference from the 2nd quarter of the 1st half.

- Our offensive line really underperformed today. They hardly gave Sanchez time after the first two possessions and couldn't open a hole for either back. What really pissed me off was when the Titans were penetrating with only four men.

- Sure, Sanchez is a rookie and the ball was slippery, but he should've had more attacks on the Titans secondary.

- Mentioned above, but special teams, both ours and theirs, played a huge part in today's victory, although I want to forget that last punt.

- Someone under the radar that should be mentioned: Eric Smith

- Surprised we didn't run a reverse this week.

- I'll take the victory, but I'll say that we were better than what was on the field today. Onto the Superdome for Week 4...

Great teams find ways to win... seriously, we didn't play that well yet in the end still came away with the W against a desperate opponent. Sanchez is fine, D is great (remember we were without Lito, Strickland and Pace today), special teams are great too. Now the only true concern right now is the run game, we have to step up in that regard...

sanchez sure is. He seems very poised for a rookie. but overall, I like the swagger of this team, especially on defense. And we are playing without pace. So imagine how much better we can become... I am really loving this season so far...

exactly. Not only were the Titans desperate, but they are very talented. When you have good talent that is desperate, you have an dangerous opponent. Jets did a good job, by beating a team, that is very talented and had to have a win! good job..
