75 WINS

Post#1 » by SharoneWright » Sun Oct 4, 2009 10:04 pm

Jays started 27-15. ---> .642

Ended 48-72. ---> .400

Very tough year. Hopes were high. Then things came to a crashing halt.

Romero, Cecil, Hill, Lind. That was the good news. The rest is ballast.

Good luck next year guys. New GM. Probably new FM. Welcome Travis Snider.

And all the best to Roy.

Its in the books... 2009 --> 75 wins. :sour:

A good offseason? Really?

Management has been handed to ANOTHER young, baseball whiz kid, who's a JP assistant no less. So, you're telling me that the guy that has the answers to turn around the organization was already in the system and had JP's ear?

A good offseason? Really?

Rogers will spend LESS than they did this year and the great, bulky one, Vernon Wells' full contract (the ridiculous 17-18 mill per year for the next 5 years) starts next season. So, if Rogers spends $60 mill, and a 1/3 of it goes to Vernon Wells, where does that leave for FAs and such?

A good offseason? Really?

The Blue Jay players have like zero credibility when they revolted against Cito (witness the complete 180 they did when they realized that they ... cough... Overbay... cough... looked like idiots. And these are your trading chip for the offseason?

A good offseason? Really?

Overall, the Jays are screwed. Financially, they're dead. Prospect-wise, they're terrible, worst in their own division. Fanbase-wise, completely turned off (good luck, Jays, selling ANY season tickets). This could be the lowest point in the history of the franchise. I won't be surprised if the Jays are bought and moved in five years. But don't worry, though, because, since this market is a good one, Toronto will be rewarded with another expansion MLB franchise. Then, we can do the whole process all over again. Frankly, this might be a good thing because there's a slim chance the current situation can be turned around.

But (not to be too negative) to turn around, the following needs to happen:

1) The Halladay trade yields a massive haul: a rotation SP, a middle of the lineup SS and a couple of high end prospects.
2) Some GM out there takes Vernon Wells. Or Wells actually gets off the HGH he's been on these past couple of years (he Sammy Sosa'd it the last couple of years; how the hell did he get so huge? He was Rios-proportion when he started. I won't be surprised if he was on "the list".)
3) The FA market is EXTREMELY poor this year in regards to signings and some quality FAs actually decides to play at below market value in Toronto.

Then, it will seriously be a good offseason.
Two years from being two years away.
