Jameer Nelson and Vince Carter will not play against the Grizzlies. Jason Williams and Mickael Pietrus are in the starting lineup instead. Marcin Gortat goes back to the bench and Dwight Howard returns. Brandon Bass is also coming off the bench and Matt Barnes will start.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The Good
Sam Young continues to impress. His energy seems to know no bounds and he sells out with effort at both ends of the floor. In both home games, he’s been very impressive and his offensive aggression has earned him plenty of trips to the foul line. For a team whose offense previously stagnated into one-on-one play and jump shots with the shot clock winding down, Young’s willingness to throw his body around is a most welcome tonic.

The Bad
While we all have to remember that the Grizzlies are a young team with major turnover from last season, it’s a great concern that the Grizzlies keep turning the ball over. True, they did force 23 from Orlando, but the Grizzlies committed 23 of their own. You can’t score if you don’t have the ball and the Magic are too good offensively to give them extra opportunities.

The Ugly
The Grizzlies, though more talented than in their previous incarnations, will still have little margin for error in the always-rugged Western Conference. Poor free throw shooting negates a lot of good work. Monday night, the Grizzlies left nine points on the table with 17 of 26 free throw shooting. While it would not have made a difference against the Magic, most nights 65% free throw shooting will be a severe impediment to winning.

The "bad and the ugly" is going to be an ongoing problem with a relatively young team. While veteran teams can get away with mistakes during games and make up for it in crucial times, inexperienced teams don't have the savvy of the ebb and flow and usually need to be firing on all cylinders in all areas to win. I'm afraid the Grizzlies will once again have moments of brilliance that is offset by moments of blunders that cost them.

As for the good, Sam Young has been impressive, but once the regular season begins, with guys like Mayo, Gay, and Iverson taking the huge bulk of playing time, unless there's an injury Young isn't going to get the minutes he needs to develop further. It's a shame and I wonder if management knew that he would turn out to be legit if they would have signed Iverson?

If Sam Young continues like he's been playing then I can really envision and terrific backcourt of Mayo at the point with Young at shooting guard. Next year perhaps.

Sam Young has definately made himself known so far in the preseason that he's capable of being a good contributor for the Grizz. If he continues this tread, coach will have to consider fitting him into the rotation. How will that happen, I don't know.

On the TOs' it's ugly as hell right now. They have to do a better job reducing the number of TOs' in order to keep their chances of winning in their favor. Making better decisions with the ball along can go a long way.
