Bulls fan here..couple questions/trade possibilities

Post#1 » by sdeezy » Mon Dec 7, 2009 5:52 am

Whats up Sactown, first off, love your squad..great young players and easy to root for.

Got a couple questions :

1: where do u guys stand on KMart right now? Is he available for trade? After the emergence of Tyreke, is it still the plan to play him at PG next to Martin or do want to keep him at SG and pair him with a more traditional PG?

2: Hows Donte Greene coming along? I'm a Syracuse fan, but i havent been following him like i do with Flynn Melo, Hakim etc. has his shot selection improved? does he play better man defense? from his stats it doesnt look like he's contributing in many areas except scoring?

3: I was thinking up some trades. If you havent noticed already , my Bulls offense is abysmal and we need some perimeter scoring/spacing in the worst way. Would a deal like this be considered?

KMart/Kenny Thomas/Sergio for Deng and Hinrich? Y'all get 2 pretty good sidekicks to Tyreke. Both play excellent defense and Hinrich would be great next to a guy like Reke imo. Deng is having a very good season as well and is a beast on the glass. Averaging 17/8/2 on the season so far. My bulls get the scoring they desperately need and a true backup PG in Sergio

1) Everyone is always available for trade. With Kevin though, I would actually consider him less available than anyone at this very moment simply because we haven't really seen how he and Tyreke will fit together.

There isn't necessarily a plan in place at the moment mostly for that reason. I will say that I'm not a huge fan of having Tyreke next to a truly "traditional" PG. Beno, for instance, is looking to be a very nice fit with him right now.

2) Quite nicely. After a very erratic rookie season, Donte is showing great signs of really wanting to buckle down and be a smart, solid over all NBA player. If he can do this with a bit more consistency and continue to stay focused like he has been so far this year, he just may realize his very considerable potential.

3) No, I'd pass on that. The salary we take on just wouldn't make it worth it at all for me. It's not a terrible proposal, but nah. I might do it with Beno in there instead of Kenny/Sergio (or something like that that would work salary-wise), but even then, probably not. Beno has bee much, much better than Hinrich this year, and otherwise, it's just not worth a pretty clear downgrade from Martin to Deng.

It's looking more and more like you can pair Evans with EITHER a PG or a SG. When Martin first went out it was Evans & Udrih playing together. But over the last 2 or so weeks we've seen more of an Evans/Greene backcourt. I think what the Kings are thinking here is that Evans can absolutely destroy the opposing PG with his size, so it makes sense to force the other team to either guard a super talented player (Martin) or a giant (Greene) with their PG (and get killed) or guard Evans with their PG. This instead of playing Evans at the 2 and a "natural" PG at the 1 (like Beno).

As for availability, I'm sure anyone on the Kings is available. Are they shopping him? Doubtful. They may be taking offers but it doesn't make much sense to shop an injured player.

It wouldn't be considered for anything the Bulls would be willing to give up.

Deng's having a good season but you have to remember that he's still owed a boatload of money and this is the first time since signing that contract that he actually looks like he's earning it. Basically, my view of Deng is still as a bad contract--pretty much the same thing you'd say about Beno Udrih: "Sure he's played great so far but he's still owed soooooooo much money and he's only played great for a handful of games". So how do I feel about a bad contract being the starting point for our best/2nd best player? Uhmm, not so good. And that doesn't even consider the fit of Deng at the 3; the word "horrible" comes to mind there. If there's one thing you need to put next to Evans at this point in his career it's outside shooters. He's a weak 3pt shooter right now and without good long range shooters you'll see defenses continually collapse on his drives. I've seen the threads on the Bulls board (and even been told about it in trade board threads) saying Deng has an improved 3pt shot but I don't buy it for a second. If you've improved on something then you should actively go out and try to use it, but he's only shot 13 so far in 18 total games.

As for Hinrich: I like Hinrich as a type of player that could work well next to Evans. However, he's too old to be considered a good piece for this team's future.

To me, there really isn't anything on the Bulls I'd want that they'd be willing to trade. The Kings, obviously would try to go after Noah because, as is blatantly obvious, they NEED rebounding and interior defense. The Bulls, smartly, would refuse. So what's that leave the Kings to choose from:
Deng - A giant contract from a guy who hasn't even come close to earning it and is a poor fit with Evans
Johnson - Tweener forward prospect who hasn't shown anything AND plays the same position as 3 of our core young players
Hinrich - Good backup but too old at 28 to be a longterm piece
Thomas - Good player but his impending FA pretty much destroys his value. It really puts a team in a damned if you do damned if you don't position. By trading for him you're giving yourself only a handful of months to evaluate him before you'll be forced to shell out an expensive, longterm contract. Furthermore, trading for him pretty much means you have to give it to him or else you just got a return of nothing.
Salmons - That ship's sailed

So again, unless Noah's on the table, I can't see a deal that I'd even remotely consider if I was the Kings. Any such deal is basically trading Martin at a huge discount in exchange for WORSE players with less upside.

1) KMart is for trade for the right deal. Has always been the case :)

2) Donte is doing well - his defense has really come along. Blocks, steals, and solid man and team defense it's really the most impressive part of his game this season. He's smarter this year at taking 3's and he attacks the rim viciously finally realizing he's faster, bigger, stronger, and more athletic then a lot of people who try to guard him.

3) Hinrich is a nice start, but we have absolutely no interest in Deng sorry. Noah however :)

As much I like Deng and Hinrich, (especially Deng's resurgence) both of these guys are large financial commitments to a team. Well, you can argue that Hinrich is neutral but Deng's contract is still bad. A small sample of games can't erase Deng's regressive season(s), the injury-prone status and his large contract in general.

Hinrich + Noah at least gets me listening. Deng does nothing that Noc/Casspi/Greene/Garcia/Udoka bring. We don't need a SF.

Yeah, I can see doing Martin/KT for Hinrich/Noah/filler or as an alternative Martin/Hawes.
