Bill Simmons's trade suggestions

Post#1 » by Crackfool » Thu Dec 24, 2009 1:27 am

He just wrote an article on how certain teams with money (like the Rockets) can take advantage of cash-strapped teams to upgrade talent. Most of these trades are on an outrageous scale, but you have to think that for some of these offers, the Rockets just have to bite on.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/st ... ortCat=nba

Knicks receive: Tracy McGrady
Rockets receive: Anthony Randolph, Eddy Curry, Cuttino Mobley
Warriors receive: Danilo Gallinari

Rockets receive: Chris Bosh, Reggie Evans, Marcus Banks
Raptors receive: Tracy McGrady, Luis Scola, 2010 No. 1 pick, $3 million

Hornets receive: Shane Battier, $3 million, Brian Cook, Chuck Hayes
Rockets receive: David West, Morris Peterson, Ike Diogu

Hornets receive: Aaron Brooks, Tracy McGrady, Luis Scola, Brian Cook
Rockets receive: Chris Paul, Peja Stojakovic, Darius Songaila, James Posey

The Raptors one I like,

The Knicks one is just another way to set us back for years to come

And number 3 is pretty pointless on our part, We give up 2 of our core player (both captains) for someone who has fed off Chris Paul, plus a so so player in mo pete and a scrub in diogu

The last one is high way robbery... We get absolutely nothing from it and why would New Orleans want AB to start with when they have CP3?

Did he 4get Chris Pauls name on the last deal? WTF was he smoking when he came up with that idea?

I would have to take the Randolph deal and the Raptors deal as well.

What a stupid bunch of trades. The last one is terrible for the Rockets, it would make no sense at all to make that one. I can't imagine what reasoning led to that proposal, but it's embarassing. The rest make zero sense for the opposing teams. The only one I could possibly see another team doing is the 3rd one, if the Hornets are desperate for a salary dump. But that one makes no sense for the Rockets. Trade for a 4th scoring Power Forward and get rid of the only guy who is a good defender at the Center position? It doesn't make any sense unless they ditch Scola. I understand the premise of the article is that teams want to save money, but even with that in mind these ideas are highly unrealistic. There is only one that I would say I could ever see happening.

the last did have chris paul on it, i read that column earlier.

his thinking on the deals is that the hornets and knicks want cap relief and would be willing to include paul or gallinari to help shed curry's contract or the peja-songalia-posey trio. and for the knicks to go after the two maxes.

that the warriors would trade randolph or beidrins cause their crazy.

and for toronto to get something for bosh now and still contend.

Besides the Bosh deal and maybe the CP3 one, all these trades set us back for years to come and don't suit the direction this team is trying to go in.

My mistake. Typo. Somehow I forgot to include Chris Paul.

The first trade is lousy because we already have Landry

The second trade is impossible because we can't trade next years pick.

The third trade is ok, but it takes minutes from Landry, unless you are going to play West at the 5 until Yao is healthy and then trade him.

The fourth trade would be great, if the Hornets would pull that trigger, but they wont.

This just goes to show if you have been keeping up the the Morey v. Simmons match, why Morey is right about Simmons being a moron.

We trade McLady somewhere for a Slab of beer, and a freshly squeezed Turd.

Sounds like a fair trade to me!

Losing Scola is going to be inevitable, if we get a star or super star. Scola is going to receive 7-8m/year and if we give him that we will not have any money left for anyone else. On the bright side, Landry has turned into our best four anyways. As long as we get a decent back up center, we can play Hayes at the back up four and be just fine.

Future Rockets....
Yao/?/Andersen
Landry/Hayes/?
Ariza/Budinger
?/Taylor
Brooks/Lowry

1st one is god awful,

second one would be a dream come true assuming Bosh gives some hint at wanting to be here long term

third one is just stupid,

fourth one is unrealistic.

I trust what ever Morey decides. He will not take any of these deals. Simmons is just another east coast ESPN hack, who does not know what the Rockets want nor does he care.

I don't think the Knicks would do the first one. Give up Gallo just to dump Curry for one year? No way. MAYYYYYBE if they also dumped Jeffries, but even then I wouldn't think so. The 2nd is pretty terrible for Toronto. They give up Bosh essentialy straight up for Scola? Ewww. I guess it's better than letting him walk for nothing, but it looks pretty bad on paper. The 3rd you could probably do, but I'm not sure it's that great, and the 4th one doesn't seem likely to me, but if NO really wanted to dump contracts, Houston would be a good destination.
