When our country was founded, our Constitution created, in order to elect a president, they created the Electoral College. It can be said this was done because they did not trust the masses. Well, this is an indication that they were correct.

There just is not a lot of smart people out there. One more reason I truly hate the all star game.

I think the coaches should make the rosters for the All Star games. The fairweather fans and asians are voting for the wrong people. The only reason Iverson and T-Mac are getting votes are because AI's well know and T-Mac is on Yao Ming's team.

Ummmm..... I wonder if perhaps you should add some more detail to your comments 'and asians area voting'.....

The all star game is a popularity contest....

Yeah it's always been pretty bad like that, but I'm used to it now. It's dumb, but it's consistent, and something to remember down the road. We'll be like 80 remembering random ish like "damn you remember t-mac in the all star games? wtf?"

I've got nothing against any race (I love asian schoolgirls), I'm just stating the facts.
Perhaps its all for the best if Rondo and Ray don't make the teams anyway. I'd rather see them rest up for the playoffs.

I have no problem with it. The game's for the fans, the fans vote for who they want to see. You must've done something to get fan approval, so there's still merit behind it. It's still a meritocracy (this seems to be our board's new hot word), if you're good enough, you won't get snubbed, you'll still get in as a reserve.
T Mac's a teammate of Yao. A large portion of his votes come from China due to that. I believe even guys like Battier get a ton of votes because he plays on the Rockets.
Hell, my girlfriend's Chinese and she nearly cried when I told her the Rockets were looking to trade T Mac. "He was a good partner to Yao Ming"

This is true but it's also true that anyone can vote multiple times - there's no limit. In actuality only a small percentage of fans are deciding the vote. Last year Yi wasn't far behind KG, and now T-Mac and Iverson, players who have played a combined 10 games, are leading the vote?
NBA players, coaches, and some media members should do the voting IMO. Creating the best game is the NBA's first obligation to the fans and it's clear that the current system isn't working.

However, there's no bias towards who can vote multiple times. Fans who don't want T Mac in have every ability to vote multiple times just like those who want T Mac in. It's not like China's running a business to try to get T Mac, Yi, etc into the all star game, the fans just want them in it. Yi's the only one who never deserved the recognition he got in voting.
It's like Ripkin consistently being voted in to baseball's all star game at the tail end of his career. There were better players at the position at the time, but he earned fan respect and loyalty through his merits that he achieved earlier in his career. We have All NBA teams to determine who's been the best player all year by position. Just let the fans have this and enjoy who they want to see.
Also, not sure if you were trying to be accurate or just trying to make a point, but they've played 17 combined games this year.

Re: Did Our Founding Fathers Have it Right?
The founding fathers definitely had it wrong...just like the NBA does...it should be a balance of everything that they both clearly cant achieve. All they gotta do is come up with an easy formula that puts player's and coaches' votes 50% = to % of fan vote of fans in the same divisional region as players...

I see what you're getting at but I have a problem with all-star voting taking into account, for example, the 10 year old kid who votes 100 times a day for obviously undeserving players like T-Mac. The system isn't entirely broken but it could easily be fixed by taking some of the voting power away from the fans who, in some cases, abuse their privilege. Sure the rules are the same for every fan but the idea that people can (and do) vote unlimited times really sucks the fun out of the whole process for me. The all-star experience isn't about the fans anymore, it's about a small percentage of obsessive fans who project a sense of entitlement on certain people like T-Mac - it's weird.
On a side note, how many people from China have ever been to an NBA game relative to the people from China that vote for the all-star game? I have no idea but I guarantee it's way out of whack, and one reason why all-star voting is flawed.
