My Pacer Draft Board

Post#1 » by 8305 » Sun Jan 10, 2010 4:50 pm

I know its early and certainly subject to change but there are only so many ways you can say fire O'Brien, TJ sucks, and blow this thing up. In my mind the most compelling topic relative to the Pacers is who will we draft this summer with what looks to be a pretty high pick. So here goes.

1. John Wall, if the Pacers are picking number 1 it would be akin to when the Colts were in position to draft Peyton Manning. A concensus #1 pick who just happens to play the position that is the teams most glaring weakness. A dream come true.

2. Evan Turner, I'm intrigued with Turner playing pg this year at OSU. He's this draft's Tyreke Evans. If he can play the point great. If he can't you've still got a big time athlete with remarkable skills and the size to play the 2 or 3.

The next three are in no particular order. Wesley Johnson, Al Aminu and Stanley Robinson. I'm intrigued by the long athlete who can guard multiple positions. The Pacers need to get more athletic.

Ed Davis looks like he could play the 5 or the 4 and could be a big time shot blocker/rebounder.

Haven't seen Derick Favors.

Derrick Favors hasn't done much lately but the Amare comparisons lit my eyes up

DeMarcus Cousins in the first and Renardo Sidney in the second. If we cannot address the point guard position in the draft we might as well add much needed force in the paint, especially if we move Foster and/or Murphy. Roy needs to be paired with enforcers (imo). Hansbrough can start next to Roy and Cousins could back both of them up. Sidney is a project but the payoff could be nice.

Evans could be a prospect at the two, so I'd have to give him a look, even though we are sufficient at the 2 & 3 spot.

Others of interest: Patrick Patterson & Monroe.

Yeah. I go with the "take the PG if a franchise type PG is available, or a guy that can potentially turn into a franchise type PG", or "take an enforcer type combo PF/C to play with either Hansbrough/Hibbert and fill out the big man rotation for the future".

If neither is available, just take the BPA...best player available regardless of position.
