Trade brewing?
The Grizzlies are discussing a potential trade in which they would acquire guard/forward Ronnie Brewer from the Utah Jazz.
It is the latest development in the Grizzlies' quest to improve their bench.
The teams have mainly talked about which future first-round pick the Jazz would receive in return for Brewer. It is not known whether other players are involved.
Memphis is not willing to part with its own 2010 pick. The Griz have made available their late first-round selections (via Denver and the Los Angeles Lakers) for the right deal. The Jazz may also be seeking a 2011 pick. The Griz have also shown interest in dealing for Miami's Dorell Wright.
Brewer earns $2.7 million and will be a restricted free agent this summer. A qualifying offer would cost $3.7 million. The team that employs Brewer will have the right to match any offer sheet he receives in free agency.

I'd hate to lose Brewer for nothing. I do want to tighten up our wing rotation but I'd rather see Miles go.

Not that Brewer is in anyway untouchable, or that if he was getting the same minutes Wesley Matthews couldn't be every bit as effective, but this would be yet another first round draft pick the Jazz lose under the KOC era.
Granted the Jazz would get another first rounder back, I'm still not sure this is the right trade. Losing two first round draft picks this year for a future first round pick and cap relief isn't exactly ideal.

I don't like losing Brewer. He has been doing a lot of things really well this season. When we play the offense through him, he can be a deadly passer. He also brings a lot of intangibles to the team as well. If we lose him we lose a major steals threat as well.
Having said that, his scoring is down and his rebounds have stayed the same. He is really a liability at the FT line too. His shooting isn't getting any better, and he still can't hit the 3 ball. With Matthews playing great and an expected pay increase after this year, it might be a great time to move Ronnie. I just don't know if I want another draft pick, especially seeing that Memphis has improved a lot this season. They will be in the hunt for the playoffs.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Jesus Christ, if we keep Miles and trade Brew I don't know what I'll do.
Especially if we don't even get Memphis's 1st rounder. LA or Denvers? Naaa

If this were to happen, there has to be more to it. If we trade RB for a pick, that puts us back down to 12 guys. We then have to sign another D Leaguer. I just cant see that happening. I wouldnt be surprised if some beat writer is trying to stir up a rumor.

The thing is, I highly doubt Memphis is interested in someone so inefficient with a contract like CJ

I'd do Brewer for Gay. I'd even through in a 2nd round pick possibly. Although, I agree CJ has bottomed out and if we can move him I definitely would.

I'd trade brewer for Kobe, but that isnt going to happen, let try and be reasonable.

people miles is on a reasonable contract with some years left brewer will most likely get a full MLE. AKA he will cost more then miles. Yes CJ has been struggling as of late with the shot but he also made some great passes in the spurs game. Matthews has proven he is a better man defender then brewer anyway. Plus it opens up more minutes for a Korver or Miles. That being said lets package a pick with brewer and just get gay and make a run for it.

I don't think Memphis can take on salary, can they? This is an indicator that the Jazz aren't going to resign him so it makes sense to get something for him. It shouldn't be anything less the Memphis pick though. Not the Laker or Nugget pick. Memphis can protect it up to the top 3 picks.

Clearly, KOC has his marching orders to get under the salary cap and avoid paying luxury tax. As such, they lose a couple of young players in Brewer and Maynor. We can afford to lose these players but KOC appears to want to keep Boozer even if it costs them young talent.
The Jazz would get a #1 pick which they would likely draft a foreigner or trade away for a future pick in order not to pay him.
The Jazz are broke and seemed more concerned about that then winning a title.

Brewer is a decent player, but he is a shooting guard who can't shoot. The Jazz system requires spacing to be effective. Brew just does not provide enough of a threat to do that. We need to eliminate some of the logjam of mediocre SG/SFs on our team.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
It doesn't say who approached who in these trade talks. It would take more than a pick and Brewer to get Gay. I wouldn't be happy losing Brewer. I would much rather part ways with CJ.

Ronnie might very well get a full MLE from a team utah isnt going to match that. CJ is on a cheaper deal, sure he's not the same type of player as ronnie but he does provide different things that brewer lacks. Matthews to me seems to me as a similar player to brewer only not as athletic but near if not better at defense then brewer, although brew does have better hands to steal. But when you look at it, it wouldnt be a huge loss.
