I don't know about that because NJ will need a pg plus Farmar is restricted free agent while Brown has the option. the only reason NJ would do thi in the first place is for cap room for the summer so Brown doesn't fit.

Lakers Inquire About Devin Harris

Post#4 » by 96 Til Infiniti » Thu Jan 21, 2010 4:46 am

http://thelakersnation.com/blog/2010/01 ... in-harris/

Comes from ESPN's Ric Bucher, doesn't say much but that the Lakers have inquired about Harris.

Farmar + Morrison would work and satisfy the Nets goals of getting the 1st pick and having FA money to spend next summer.

Discuss.
Thank you, Phil.

Could we get Devin Harris?

Post#5 » by CodyB » Thu Jan 21, 2010 1:29 pm

The Nets are currently stinking it up and are on pace for a 6-76 finish. There has been talk of moving Devin Harris, as the Nets are likely to land the 1st pick in the draft and, subsequently, will probably end up with John Wall. Not to mention, the Nets will be a darkhorse in the 2010 FA Market and will want all the room they can get.

For us, Devin Harris would be the god send. Quick, energetic, talented and has the potential to be a lock down defender and good shooter. He is also talented with the ball in his hands. It's my opinion that our perimiter play is going to get worse as Kobe gets older. Ron, Shamwow nor Jordan Farmar will be able to fill that void and Devin Harris could very well step into this role with great effectiveness. Every great team needs exploseiveness, and he can provide this.

A package that works for both teams is Ammo + Jordan Farmar + Dj Mbenga + 2 1st round picks and cash for Devin Harris.

Don't get me wrong, it's probably a trade such as this would be almost impossible, however, it works for the Nets because it clears roughly 9 million off the salary next season. That would put them in the position to land two big time free agents plus a key contributor. It would make the Lakers strong at every position and, talent wise, one of the better teams ever assembled.

Devin Harris is definitely a step up ... but is he worth all the money. He's owed like 9 mill per over the next 4 years.

Harris is DEFINITELY better than Farmar, but I think he would be coming here fro defense ONLY and at his price he should be expected to do more.

Hell, we could sign a defensive PG stopper (what Harris would be) for the minimum.

This is the type of EXPENSIVE move that has the potential to REALLY piss off Jerry Buss if we don't win it all ...

First of all, let me say that Kobe's perimeter play is not really going to get that worse in the next few years. Seriously. Kobe has had a few bad games with the broken finger and all, and i get the feeling that you are beginning to use these last few games to visualize what an old ass Kobe would be like. Please realize that Mr Bryant is still the most dangerous thing with a basketball in his hands in terms of decision making, killer instinct, clutch, and more. And he will be for at least the next three yrs. Don't put too much stock on "explosiveness". Steve Nash is probably the least explosive pg in the game but this dude will Murder you if you don't pay attention.

Secondly, I don't think that Harris is more explosive than Shannon brown. I don't watch Harris too much but i think that if given the minutes, Brown could provide every bit of the defensive intensity and "offensive explosiveness" that Harris could bring. Also, Shannon Brown's shooting is only going to get better as time goes on, and i need not mention that Harris' shooting is not that lethal anyway. Harris is really only going to be a better ball handler. But IMO the Tri doesn't really need superior ball handlers at the PG spot (perimeter), We just need good enough passers that can get ball to whoever is posting up. Yo... I'm just not seeing the reason why we should unload all that for Harris. We don't need to do this trade unless its a total steal like Ammo, Luke, and a second rounder for Harris...lol.

Back to the Kobe stuff... Just even hinting the idea of Devin Harris as some kind of eventual replacement for Kobe Bean Bryant; Harris as a "God send' in that regard? Oh my Gosh!...dude... i dunno man... thinking about that just bothers me so bad.

Update: According to USA Today, ESPN.com is reporting that the Nets are "no longer sold on Harris as a core piece on the team," and might trade him for the right price.

In order to speak of someone in the light of taking over for the soon-to-be arguably the best player ever (Kobe), please make sure that the person could at least serve as a an effective centerpiece for arguably the worst team ever!

WE NEED A PG-D Harris or Hinrich!!

Post#8 » by thegamefritz » Thu Jan 21, 2010 4:57 pm

Nets willing to trade Harris. I think he is an excellent defender, super quick, can keep up with fast PG like Rondo, Parker and A. brooks. He is also an all star PG.

2nd option is Hinrich
he is a great Defender also but he is a little slower than D. harris but he has a better J and 3 point shooting.

we got expiring contracts and next year's expring contract
trade
sasha
j farmar-he is playing great as of late but we should not fall into that again, he is just looking for big payday. We should learn from sasha and luke..
a morrison- although i still really want to see this kid get some PT but the thing is we need to upgrade.
if we could dumped luke's contract then the better!!!

Yeah, but look at who those three Lakers would be -- a backup PG, a third-string center and the 12th man. Plus, first-round picks don't mean anything to us, other than biting into the salary structure. This is a win-now team.

I can't believe they'd dump him for a pu-pu platter like that. Then again, as we learned from Memphis, some teams are just that desperate to scrap their team and start over. And never has there been a team more deserving of scrapping than the Nets.

where did you get that from? do you have a link? all I have heard is that the Lakers asked about Harris. can you prove that the Nets are willing to trade him? the wire tap article is based on the Rumor created by an ESPN writer and a thread in the general board here on realgm.

it has been established that Hinrich is not attainable for various reasons.

it is unrealistic to just drop Luke's contract on somebody. a. Phil likes him b. nobody in the league want Luke the player c. his contract is horrible.

I agree on Farmar 100%.

with no current rookie contract players, and without the ability to trade this yrs first or next yrs, i don't know how the lakers could offer anything for harris that at least 20 teams couldn't outdo. at least with pau, lakers had a very rare huge expiring that other teams couldn't matchup with.

This would be that move that puts us over the top for sure. Would be a great move if we can dump any combination of Morrison, Farmar and Sasha. Bittersweet if we can only get it done by letting Brown walk.

This is Rod Thorn we're talking to here. He'll screw us any chance he gets, remember the Jason Kidding episode when he almost stole Bynum?

Wow, how crazy would it be if we got Harris for Farmar and Morrison? That's a massive upgrade.

People need to realize that Fisher's salary will go down considerably (or at least it should), so that's going to help swallow his contract. Vujacic expires after next season.

Get it done Mitch!

Harris and Bynum would be nice pieces for the Lakers now and for the future if management decides to keep them both.

Lakers get Harris in a trade sounds good to me! But I hope they don't give away too much. Brown is a proven Laker, so to give him up would be a bad move. Don't give up on a sure thing they say and Brown is our sure thing. The Harris trade might work...

With the Robinson and Harris rumors its pretty obvious that the Lakers are in the hunt for a PG, so thats has to be good news.
