Danny's take Vs The Real World

Post#1 » by Red2 » Thu Jan 21, 2010 8:06 pm

Danny says he doesn't get calls from other teams about our players because other teams know he's happy with his roster. Could it be that other teams don't think as highly of our bench as Danny does? Or for that matter our starters also? Really, other than Scal and Tony's expiring contracts who is there on our bench that other teams want? Maybe Rasheed Wallace but that's about it. Daniels is hurt and Davis is coming off an injury and hasn't shown anything. Eddie is in a season long slump and Scal is well, Scal. Tony Allen has had some nice moments and is capable of playing good D but is a lousy decision maker and commits horrific turnovers. Giddens and walker never play so they have no value and Shelden Williams is in the NBA witness protection program for former 1st round picks who are now busts and are trying to make a comeback at the end of someone's bench. But, hey we have great chemistry and Doc and Danny "really like this team." let's hope they're right about the talent on this team because in the last 3 weeks or so when we really needed this bench to step up they have been nowhere to be found.

It's simple. The top 8 players on the team (the starters + Rasheed, House, Daniels) fit into the celtics alot better and have higher value to the celtics then other teams. The rest of the team is just a bunch of bench warmers who also will not get enough value for around the league. Other teams have bench guys in the 9-12 spots that are just as good as our Tony Allens, Bill Walkers and etc.

So we're stuck. And we've been stuck. And we wont really be able to change much on this team for a couple years. For better or for worse.

So why did he make the Knicks an offer for Nate Robinson?

Ainge is not going to let anyone in on what he is doing.

We've got young dead weight on the roster

Walker and Giddens don't do sh*t

The problem is Doc doesn't play them. So their value doesn't look like it will ever go up while they're here.

I bet the main reason why Doc doesnt play them is because he doesnt want the vets to get pissed off with these young kids in the game who dont know what theyre doing most of the time. Thats why they dont even get used in garbage time.

Thats my theory anyway. Doc loves his veterans. (Yes, Tony Allen is now a veteran).

Yep, Doc has always loved his vets. Hopefully that's not the death of us. At least he gave Perk and Rondo their rightful spots when he came in.

Here is where Boston is different. There are rumors of Phili trading AI2 and Houston trading Tracy McGrady, Knick trading Jeffries, Nets trading Harris, GS trading Corey Maggette, etc. Any team in the league would love to have any of Boston's starters but Danny isn't trading any of them. I think that is the point.

I don't think any other team in the league would really want anyone on our roster except Rondo and maybe Perk and Ray's expiring deal. Noone would touch KG at the moment with the size of his contract, similar for Pierce though he can opt out this year.

Noone would want anyone on our bench enough to make calls about them, I know I wouldn't. We have some low level expirings but I would Danny would be doing all the contact about them.

My guess is Danny is keeping a core of
the starters, plus Rasheed, Marquis and Eddie. As previously stated by another poster.

Of the 6 players "available".
Davis is BYC and coming off an injury,
and Scal + Giddens + Walker are merely expiring contracts,
and Williams and Tony Allen are less than what teams are looking for
for the type of players Danny wants to bring in.
Which means Danny would have to add in picks or cash.

There are no players being dumped that fit the Celtics salary reach.
I can see House kept around next year as the third string point guard
because he knows the offense and can hit a shot,
and Eddie has probably reached a point in his career now where
he would not be anyone's backup point guard,
but a second unit shooter when necessary. So, I could see the Celtics re-sign him,
because Eddie may not get any guarantees anywhere.

Then again, since Eddie has made a career of one year contracts, maybe he will
end up someplace else next year.

We're a good, championship caliber team, we don't need to make trades. No one is being showcased, no assets need to be developed, what we have is what you're going to get. If a trade comes along that makes us better, then we take it, but we don't need to force anything.

every team not in playoffs, every team, wants to shed salary for next year, badly.

we have a good portion of exp deals we can use and not mess with our top 8.

scal
ta
gidd

right there can get u a good 8m a year guy. if it's the right guy for the team. we won't take on future salary for an overpaid 9th guy in rotation.

let's just wait and see.
