Now that the season is over, we have the superbowl, pro bowl, and the draft to look on to.
hopefully we can get a good #2 CB to complement revis.
i also hope for a TE.
we had a great season, and are only gonna get better.
Sorry zilby...updating our picks.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
We don't have a lot of picks to work with but we also don't have that many glaring holes. You could argue that we have no spot on the field that we absolutely have to fill. Of course numerous positions have to be upgraded but the current roster is a great base for the draft.
The obvious positions the Jets should address: Cornerback, pass rusher, DLine depth, slot receiver, safety.
I also listed safety because Kerry Rhodes might not be here next season. From the early rumblings you hear around the senior bowl the Jets seem to like Kyle Wilson from Boise State and have interest in Austen Lane and Alex Carrington. We'll see what happens...

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
what about TE?
i didnt feel that keller was too effective this season.
hopefully the postseason upped his value. like Ariza with LA last year.
or replace braylon. brandon marshall sounds intriguing...

I'll keep him for one more season. If Keller works on his blocking, the guy could be an amazing versatile weapon on that line. We saw what he did with Favre. Sanchez practicing with him in the offseason could be huge for next season.

We're a bit lower on draft picks as it is (I believe the Broncos want a 1st and a 3rd), but I love Marshall too.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
if we can find a way to get marshall without sacrificing too much, i would be all over it.
i suppose keller deserves a chance, and he was just meshing with Sanchez.
in other news, Rhodes looks like he's staying.
also, the jets retained the underachiever Vernon Gholston.
jones looks like he's on the way out.
i hope he has good value from this season. he put up good numbers and he could net us a good person on defense, hopefully a #2 CB.

It's the Post, but even I think they're not dumb enough to incorrectly quote Tannenbaum.

Tannenbaum already said that Kerry is staying.
Same with Gholston, but Jones is likely gone.

I've all, but given up on Gholston. He can't succeed here, but it will cost the team millions if he's cut and we can't trade him.

We should also look for a punter in the later rounds/free agency. Weatherford's having offseason heart surgery.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
hey whaddya know rich, it's possible.
you remember in thegame thread i was talking about the oakland CB? nndami asomugha or something?
he wants to play for the jets alongside revis.
we would have the deadliest CB combination if we got him.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
I was just about to post that, zilby.
http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/ ... servations
My goodness...we'd have one of the most dangerous secondaries in recent memory. We mayhave to give up a first plus others. Keep in mind, if we go for him, we may lose out on Brandon Marshall, but I definitely wouldn't mind going into the season with Braylon + Cotchery with Revis and Asomugha (with Jenkins coming back) on the other side of the ball.
The question is...can we get Al Davis to trade him? This is the guy that traded Randy Moss for a 4th rounder. He also traded a 1st for a 1 year rental of Richard Seymour.
Rex Ryan may face tampering charges due to this.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
yeah i heard that.
in other jets stories, sanchez is going to have surgery to stabilize his patella ligament.
i dont think that is going to affect him too much. but it will be good.
and if we got asomugha, and have jenkins, our defense would stand its ground as the most dangerous in the league.
i like braylon, and i dont mind re-signing him as long as its in the 1-3 year column.

now asomugha says that playing for the jets was a joke.
somehow i don't buy that, considering that he plays on the raiders.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
been a slow week on the jets board, and the only news this week basically:
asomugha was apparently joking about playing for NY.
sanchez undergoing surgery to stabilize his patella (or something along those lines)
chad pennington wants to come back to the jets. (no, we dumped you for a reason.)

I feel like a loner talking to myself. SOMEBODY BRING PEOPLE HERE!
Anyways, great superbowl!
Jets news update of the week - Brought to you by zilby.
Not much this week, actually nothing really.
Jets hired Mark Carrier, a former Pro-Bowler as our D-Line coach.
He was the secondary coach for Baltimore last year.
Also, Jets tendered offers to The Smith's. (Brad and Eric)

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
I think it becomes more and more obvious that we will spend one of our first two picks on a CB. There are three main reasons for that and why it would make sense. We don't have a true starter next to Revis as the CS lost faith in Lito's health and ability (otherwise you don't bench him for the biggest game of the season in favor of Dwight Lowery), the cornerback class in this draft looks to be very deep behind Joe Haden who will certainly be gone when we pick and Rex knows how important a good press corner is in his blitzing scheme. Lowery is a good player to have for depth but when we are facing elite teams he will get picked on. Strickland is never healthy, unfortunately because he has been terrific when he actually played.
Here is a list of the CBs who might be available to the Jets in the first two rounds:
Dominique Franks (Oklahoma) - Great size and athletisism, questionable character and instincts
Kyle Wilson (Boise State) - A little small but very explosive and with very loose hips
Donovan Warren (Michigan) - Good program pedigree and tough but very raw, speed is a question mark
Perrish Cox (Oklahoma State) - Elite athlete, terrific coverage skills, great return man, character issues
Kareem Jackson (Alabama) - extremely physical bump and run corner, great run supporter, still raw
Brandon Ghee (Wake Forest) - good size, solid all around yet a little slow to react at times
Amari Spievey (Iowa) - strong, physical athlete who looks the part, more of a prospect
Patrick Robinson (Florida State) - elite level athlete from great program, inconsistent, mental lapses
Devin McCourty (Rutgers) - great special teamer, physical corner who could excel in man coverage
I think we will definitely end up with one of these guys on Draft Day.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
no jets news this week now.
Two RB's got released in Tomlinson and Westbrook.
If we move Jones, I have no problem if we could get one of them as #2 if Washington can't make it back 100% healthy.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
UPDATE- Quick news.
Apparently, Asomugha rumors are heating up again.
Also, the Jets have signed kicker Nick Folk, as insurance to feely.
EDIT- a bit more news today. Thomas Jones has been informed that if he does not renegotiate his contract, the jets are going to release him.
Also, Antonio Bryant is not returning to Tampa. If we cannot retain Braylon Edwards, should we look at him?
UPDATE- Thomas Jones will be released by the Jets, and will not return most likely.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
Well CB opposit Revis has been filled with the trade for Antonio Cromartie.

As one reporter wrote..
"...the Jets just got themselves a hell of a steal for what is currently a third-round pick, and even if it escalates to a second-rounder, it's arguable that they're doing just fine with this swap.
Throw in the fact that they already have an elite corner that they can throw out by himself on "an island" in Darrelle Revis, and the Jets could potentially be fielding the most feared cornerback tandem in the league in 2010."
I would expect the focus to be on a pass rusher or a receiver.

Re: Official Draft Discussion Thread
To which, I'd prefer Demaryius Thomas from Georgia Tech. A big (6'3"), quick (4.38 measured 40) WR with big hands, nice body control who many believe have star potential. Broke his foot so didn't participate in combines and will be out for some time (which might work to the Jets advantage).
