Lakers Own a lot of Picks (Trade Assets)

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Mon Feb 1, 2010 11:16 am

Here is what the Lakers have for picks for the next few years:

2010 - no 1st, LAL 2nd round, Mem 2nd round
2011 - LAL 1st, LAL2nd, Mia 2nd, NYK 2nd
2012 - LAL 1st, LAL2nd
2013 - (the world ends so it doesnt matter anyway, but if it doesnt) LAL 1st, LAL2nd, MEM 2nd

Wow we have 5 2nd round picks in the next 2 draft, maybe we can use these w/ our expirings to land a comboG/PG. Just wanted to let everyone know that the Lakers have the 2nd most 2nd picks (behind only Kurt Rambis in Minny).

I didn't realize we ended up w/ so many 2nd rounders. Mitch is working overtime. 8-)
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Don't put any stock into that '13 Memp pick. They have to be one of the 5 BEST teams in the league for it to come. Otherwise it expires unused. Nobody will trade for it (ex Memp getting it back).

No team gets excited over 2nd round picks. Would you trade anyone on this team outside of hot trash like Luke and Sasha for expiring and a 2nd rounder?

Well not exactly the Nuggets got excited over second round picks and sent Camby to the Clippers so anything is possible.

You could possibly shape a deal with assets like those. They're not that useless. The 2012 pick, the Miami pick, the Memphis pick, and the Knicks pick are worth enough to throw a salary trade from likely to a go.

But sometimes there is an advantage - for instance #42 pick last year. Lakers turned that Charlotte pick into another 2nd and more importantly Cash. Because they knew Riley really wanted Beverley, they snatched him right there with no intention of him being a Laker and used it to their gain.

They're worth something in cash which helps over the long-term when you're trying to make a deal and you don't want to include your own cash to make the deal happen. Daddyfive what do you think of my latest proposal in the trade thread? I use pretty much all of these picks but the jobs get done.

Except the Nuggets didn't get a 2nd round pick, they got the right to swap their 2nd rounder with the Clippers. They sent Camby to the Clippers because they had the capspace to absorb his contract.

At most the team gets cash from a deal oriented around 2nd rounders, we are not going to get useful players because we have a stack of those.

You know the value of 2nd round picks? Not much

High 2nds are worth about the same as a late first based on guaranteed vs. non-guaranteed. Decent values, nothing great. Late 2nds really aren't worth much at all maybe 800k.

Marc Gasol seems to be a useful 2nd. For both Memphis (on court) and LA (right sweetener to get a yes on the Pau deal).

Late 2nd round picks don't amount to much. The Knicks, Heat and Grizzlies picks are interesting, however.

With the salaries on this team, might be better off keeping those picks to fill in some roles.

I read on a hoopshype rumor link that Kobe has been lobbying heavily with the Lakers FO to upgrade their backcourt. I believe the Lakers will def go after a strong role player; if not during the season in the off-season.
The Lakers Org has the knack of turning nobody's into somebody's (i.e. Shannon); unfortunately Adam Morrison is a lost case. I am a little but not too familiar with the rest of the league but who do you guys would be a strong energy/role player for our second unit. I think Shannon & Farmar play well together but they need another energy player to bang inside. Powell is not the same as last year.

Very true for some like Devean George, Mark Madsen, and Tyrone Lue to name a few. Not true for others like Brian Cook, Vlad Rad, and Kwame Brown.

Energy player to bang inside, that reminds me of Ronny Turiaf.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
