but in the end, not doing that trade was a great decision: we kept phil hughes, traded kennedy in for granderson, marquez in for swisher, and melky in package for javy....+ had the ability to sign CC and AJ...there were plenty of us (including me) who wanted Johan, but not getting him gave us the flexibility to do soo many other things and we won last year too....imo this might go down as one of best cash (non) moves

This situation is very similar to the Halladay situation this year. Do the Yankees give up Montero and Hughes for Halladay (when before it was Hughes/Cano Minnesota wanted), or do they stay where they're at and sign a big name pitching FA next year (Sabathia in the previous case). Seems like the Yankees were willing to give up Montero, which I wouldn't have done. I'm happy that the Jays preferred Drabek over Montero (maybe not straight up, but with Michael Taylor and that C prospect going back, they preferred that).

i would counter that this case is different as this team is just loaded compared to 3 years ago and another elite SP wouldve pretty much guaranteed a WS run...although we will see....i think cash offered monetero, but thats it....cash has a good record, so we need to trust him
however, I do beleive the santana study makes for interesting debate for how a team should do business....i think its obvious not doing that trade was a brilliant move even thou it cost us one post season

Given that Santana is coming off elbow surgery in just Year 2 of his contract. Yeah, I'd say that I'm glad we passed.
