I was hoping there was a better market for him. I guess this is how Nuggets fans felt when they gave him to us for nothing. I will miss Marcus. He's been great for the Clippers.

WTF?????? Why are we making Portland better to get expirings? Dunleavy dropped the ball on this one.

Camby is not gonna like that at all.

Trade RUMOR, Camby to Blazers

Post#5 » by GOBlazers » Tue Feb 16, 2010 7:53 am

This is still only rumor, but it is pretty much official. Blazers hit a home run. Clipper owner Donald Sterling fattens his wallet.

Camby for the Blake and Outlaws expirings, plus cash.

Blake is an excellent backup, and played well as a starter for us. Portland fans had a love hate relationship with outlaw. He will knock down a lot of game winners, but he also has a poor basketball IQ.

The Trail Blazers will trade forward Travis Outlaw and guard Steve Blake to the Los Angeles Clippers for veteran center Marcus Camby, an agent for one of the players has confirmed to The Oregonian.

The deal is expected to be finalized on Tuesday, well before the noon Thursday trading deadline, and on the same day the Clippers are in Portland to play the Blazers on Tuesday in the Rose Garden.

http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2010/02/outlaw_blake_traded_to_clipper.html

After taking the call, Camby immediately walked out of the restaurant. A source close to him says he is “very upset” about the trade. He had hoped to re-sign with the Clippers this summer.

“He likes the Clippers, he likes the organization, he likes L.A.,” the source said. “His wife is happy in L.A. And he’s not one for change. He’s definitely not happy about this.”

Camby also was angry when the Denver Nuggets traded him to the Clippers.

Camby isn’t the only one angry.

Said one Clipper: “All the guys are upset because our best defensive player got traded basically for a backup point guard and money.”

Does this mean Blake Griffin gets 23 now?

lol, i started my own thread referring to it as a RUMOR, as to prevent the lock. But they just unlocked this one.

The Mods must have decided its close enough to "official"

Someone please tell me what the point of this trade was. An expiring for expirings? What is Blake and Outlaw going to help us with? Getting a higher lottery pick? Unless a pick or money was included from Portland's end this trade makes no sense to me.

The 3 million in cash that will likely be included with the trade is what makes it make sense

Well if that's true then yeah I guess that does, but it wasn't stated in any of the sources so that's why I'm so confused. :-?

Well I'll miss Camby as well. You guys will love the heart this guy has. He's not a good one on one defender, but he hustles a lot and has superb help defense. One of the few guys on the team who always gave 100% effort each game.

Now Inside Hoops is reporting that Camby MAY be traded. Supposedly their source said "has been traded," but now they've changed the wording to "may be traded."
http://www.insidehoops.com/blog/?p=5407
Lesson learned: always fact check.

Either way, it looks like this will go down. I have NO idea how this trade benefits the Clips. I've heard there was some cash involved, but the facts are murky here. If the deal does for sure go through, I'll miss Marcus. He was one of the only guys who consistently played hard for us, & we gave him nothing. Best of luck in POR, Marcus.

UPDATE

Ran into this, an interesting article from Yahoo, which reports that Camby was informed of the trade at the team dinner tonight. According to the article, Camby and other Clippers are upset about the trade.

It not official OP, but it's highly likely to go through.

Camby bitched about being traded to LA for too little, now he's bitching about being traded to Portland cuz he's settled in LA.

The proposed trade, which was first reported by Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, will send Camby to Portland in exchange for forward Travis Outlaw(notes), guard Steve Blake(notes) and cash.

In town in advance of their Tuesday game against the Trail Blazers, the Clippers were having a team dinner at Portland’s Ringside steakhouse Monday night when Camby received a call on his cell phone from Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard. Pritchard informed Camby that he will likely be traded to Portland once the league finalizes the deal on Tuesday.

After taking the call, Camby immediately walked out of the restaurant. A source close to him says he is “very upset” about the trade. He had hoped to re-sign with the Clippers this summer.

Now that just pisses me off to know he was willing to resign with us after this season. I swear Sterling better hire a damn good coach with that **** money he's getting.

its done, just waiting on Paul Allens approval (and we know he approves). And this quote makes more sense than the above one. Why would the blazers gm contact Camby??? that was just stupid

In town in advance of their Tuesday game against the Trail Blazers, the Clippers were having a team dinner at Portland’s Ringside steakhouse Monday night when Camby received a call on his cell phone from his agent, Rick Kaplan. Kaplan informed Camby that he will likely be traded to Portland – though one league source cautioned that the Blazers’ ownership had yet to sign off on the deal.

Yahoo is reporting that Camby very upset back this deal and so are his teammates. One Clipper saying: "he basically got traded 4 a backup PG and money."

I can't blame him. Who ever wants to get traded? Who wants to uproot their family (just assuming he's a family man)? He was upset when he got traded to the Clips, as well, but he got over it and I'm sure he'll get over this, as well. It could be a 3 month stint and perhaps he resigns with the Clips over the summer??? I gotta believe this trade simply came down to money for the Clips. We know Donald Sterling is cheap and we know Paul Allen will include $3 million in a trade. That would be my guess for this trade. The Clips save $1.5 million immediately on Camby's salary and probably make another $3 million in cash. I don't know that they could have found a better deal financially. As a Portland fan, I hope this deal happens tomorrow (today now). As a Clippers fan, I just wish ya good luck. I dunno if you'll care for Blake or Outlaw. I really wonder if Blake will play or be waived and resign with Portland. Outlaw takes ugly shots, has a very low basketball IQ, but makes enough shots to actually make you sorta like him. He's one of those guys you'll love one second, hate the next second, love the next second and so on.

Sounds like Outlaw leaked the word and helped start this rumor frenzy (which changes by the minute)

Outlaw late Tuesday night said his agent, Bill Duffy, informed him that the deal should be finished on Tuesday.

"He said it is still being finished, but that it should go through,'' Outlaw said.

The deal, which will also include the Blazers giving cash to Los Angeles, is expected to be finalized on Tuesday,

Is this thing for sure?
That ESPN article mentiones other teams might be able to offer something of more value and still get him.

And if it happens:
Couldn't they at least just try to get a pick back for him?

What is Dun trying to do here?
I could see Outlaw fitting with us, but does Dunleavy really think he can re-sign him?
And why the hell can't he even add Thornton or Telfair to create some more cap space?
