Re: A Fantic's Laker Shrine
Wow that's truly something else. He got stuff from the players, ballboys and other collectors there. I'm sure if he wanted to open it up for public viewing he'd get more money than a popular museum in LA.
There's easily a couple millions worth stuff there.

There's just so much history in each of those items, I bet you could tell stories on and on that would be entertaining.

I think NBAtv meant "fanatic" and not a "fantic". It's even misspelled throughout the story.

I would love some of that stuff. Jerry West stuff. Some I think is nice but it is just stuff. My wife would never let me have that much space in the house.

I've actually exchanged e-mails with this guy. He runs really high-end auctions, or at least he used to, that are COMPLETELY out of my league. I think he told me he has something like 10 pairs of Kareem's old goggles. It just goes on and on.
I have a really, really nice collection -- authentic balls or jerseys signed by 46 of the Top 50, and every MVP but Iverson and McAdoo, plus an assortment of modern stars who have yet to reach the necessary career standards.
But the only thing I have that even remotely compares to the game-used stuff he has is a pair of Gary Payton's practice sneakers.
I did have an opportunity to buy one of George Mikan's prosthetic legs, however. I passed.

LOL, I forgot about that. I should have been using it on myself...

An addendum on my collection: I've been pretty sure for a while that my Ewing ball is a forgery, so it's down to 45 of the 50.

One of his past items was a Honus Wagner, worth well over a million in its condition.

Over 100 Basketballs and Wood Pieces autographed. Basketballs are very difficult to store now and it's been a couple years since I have had one signed (Except for a mini ball by Larry Brown).
Assortment of different size photos (mostly 8x10) autographed and some magazines. I think I like photos and magazines autographed over basketballs now.
Some of the game used shoes are Josh Smith, two pairs of Jason Richardson, Jared Dudley, Carmelo Anthony, David West, Kenny Anderson, Mark Aguirre and Michael Finley.
The game used jerseys I have are Dirk Nowitzki, Jerry Stackhouse, and Josh Smith

Re: A Fantic's Laker Shrine
Love the shoes; I wish I had more pairs. They're so distinctive. If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten a pair for Jordan instead of the jersey. I think that's what I'll eventually settle on when I pick up my LeBron piece. Upper Deck cranks them out by the truck load.
I love the Payton pair I have. They've got his jersey number and nickname stitched onto them, with little friction burns on the exterior. Really, really cool.
Otherwise my favorites, by far, are jerseys. There's no way I'll ever be able to display them all, but I love the colors/style. My crown jewel is a Wilt Chamberlain jersey he signed at the National before he died. I have limited myself to just "great" players -- Top 50, MVPs, perennial All-Star types.
If you have anything signed by Billy Cunningham or John Stockton, let me know and maybe I can take them off your hands.

I'm starting to get picky with my collection and have limited myself to certain players now. Basketballs are just not a good item to me now and I plan to sell most of the. (Not the John Stockton, and I have nothing signed by Billy Cunningham)
All my shoes have the stitching of some sort on them (kids names, nicknames, parents name, players name, numbers, etc) except for Kenny Anderson. I bet your Payton's look really nice.
Yeah, jerseys and shoes are very nice. I like collecting them as high end items and just getting mags/photos signed myself. I use to love having Basketballs signed by so many players, but to me it's not as nice displaying them, and it's time I go a different direction. I wish magazines interested me sooner because once they go off the shelf they're difficult to find again, and if you do find them on say Ebay the asking price for the unsigned magazine is outrageous (quality is normally bad also).
What LeBron James piece(s) are you wanting from UDA?
