Could Nazr Actually Opt Out?

Post#1 » by Takuya Kimura » Fri Feb 26, 2010 2:11 pm

No one have ever dared to dream abou this in the past few years, but there is actually a possibility that Nazr Mohammed opt out,and i see him able to command anywhere from 8m to 12m in total if he does so.I think he should pay back the Bobcats now after so many years of sucking before this season, and sign on the cheap, enabling us to re-sign both Felton and Tyrus.

I changed the title of your thread TK. Hope you don't mind. It's just the way it was it looked like Nazzy had suggested he might opt out.

All that said, I doubt he does. I'm not sure any team is going to be an aging Nazzy 8-12 a year, especially now he is having some back issues.

He sure has been good this season though. We've really needed him and to his credit he has stepped up and made a huge difference.

Nazy would never opt out. If he was 24, yes. But he's not and although he's playing well, how many years MAX does he have? A contender isn't going to pick him up for 8-12/year that's for sure. Especially with the lockout stuff coming up.

why would he opt out? he gets 7 mil next year and with chandler around nazr still has a good chance of being a starter on a decent team. unless he is only concerned with chasing rings, then i cant see him leaving. i dont think he was happy when he sat on the bench for 2 years with the spurs/pistons while they were chasing rings, so my bet is he would rather get playing time over sitting on the bench for a contender.

Hes suggesting that Nazr would opt out for the good of the team and sign back for less so we can sign Felton and Tyrus

That would be pretty noble of Nazr to do that, but I don't see it happening. I think he likes his spot on this team, and he's been great this year for us too. Fact of the matter though is when you're starting guys like Theo Ratliff and Nazr who wouldn't even see playing time on a lot of teams, then that position seriously needs to get addressed. Can we trade the expiring Tyson for Okafor and just buy out Diop? :)

Its not clear to me you are saying this and I hope you aren't - but the only way Nazr gets $8m to $12m per season is if he has compromising pictures of Stern somewhere.

I'm thinking he means that some team will offer him something like 2 or year contract, totaling 8-12 mil.

Now that all said, I can't honestly see him doing it. Unless Charlotte offers him something like a 4 year contract. Hes under contract for almost $7 million next year. Why would you pass that up? If he was under contract for about 4-5 million next year, I could see it.
Hes having a pretty good year and all, while playing for a team that actually makes sense for him. In theory he could do it, but I doubt he would.

my guess is that nazr feels like he owes charlotte nothing. its not really his fault that LB didnt play him last year. he has always been productive when given minutes. LB is the moron who decided to trade for diop instead of just given nazr minutes last year.

The only way I can see him opt out would be if we agreed to sign him to a long contract.

eg he gives up 7 million next year, but sign for another 4 years at 4 million so is ahead in the long run.
Even that probably still isn't enough to interest him and would be pretty awful for us having that fossil signed for that long.

  Lets get Nazr back better so he can give us 15-20 minutes and forget crying about his and Tysons contracts. Right now what we need is 2- 3 productive centers we can plattoon in the lineup.
The contracts are there..Management knows it.. We need to develop what we got NOW
