Maybe the last few holdouts will now shut their yaps arguing about Pau's post ups. Among players that post up 30% of the time or more, which is 16 players, Gasol has the 4th worst FG%.
Expand it to 25% and he's still in the bottom half.
Well I'm not sure FG% is the best stat to measure post up success, since the best outcome of a post-up is a shooting foul.
They don't list TS% but on score frequency, at least 1 point produced, Gasol is 44% and that # isn't too different from other high volume post-up guys who are considered good.
Score Frequency:
Dwight : 39.6%
ZBo: 44.8%
Marc: 48.7%
Vucevic: 43.8%
Pau: 43.9%
Cousins: 46.0%
Duncan: 39.3%
Cousins % Marc are way better, but these are among the two best centers in the league. And even so Pau is within 2% of Cousins, who everyone wants posting up all the time.
If Pau's 44% isn't good enough to warrant posting him up, we're saying Dwight & Duncan certainly shouldn't be posting up either.
BUT that being said, I still agree with you. Guys like Dwight aren't good options on a pick & pop, Gasol is absolutely deadly at it. Gasol has a better use than the low post, and it clogs the paint for Jimmy, Taj, Rose, etc..
And Thibs does seem to be using this more & more.
