Maybe the last few holdouts will now shut their yaps arguing about Pau's post ups. Among players that post up 30% of the time or more, which is 16 players, Gasol has the 4th worst FG%.

Expand it to 25% and he's still in the bottom half.

Well I'm not sure FG% is the best stat to measure post up success, since the best outcome of a post-up is a shooting foul.

They don't list TS% but on score frequency, at least 1 point produced, Gasol is 44% and that # isn't too different from other high volume post-up guys who are considered good.

Score Frequency:
Dwight : 39.6%
ZBo: 44.8%
Marc: 48.7%
Vucevic: 43.8%
Pau: 43.9%
Cousins: 46.0%
Duncan: 39.3%

Cousins % Marc are way better, but these are among the two best centers in the league. And even so Pau is within 2% of Cousins, who everyone wants posting up all the time.

If Pau's 44% isn't good enough to warrant posting him up, we're saying Dwight & Duncan certainly shouldn't be posting up either.

BUT that being said, I still agree with you. Guys like Dwight aren't good options on a pick & pop, Gasol is absolutely deadly at it. Gasol has a better use than the low post, and it clogs the paint for Jimmy, Taj, Rose, etc..

And Thibs does seem to be using this more & more.

Thanks for sharing it. But too many stats in the league I think. We are going to end up looking at NBA 2k15 to see if a player has 85 or more in 3 point shooting. If he has it, he is a great shooter. We are forgeting about the game, the sensations, the art. Because I think a player is kind of a dancer (not Reggie Evans of course  ), an artist.

Now, start laughing at me

PS: stats are what make LeBron one of the biggest ever, but you watch him play and you don't have that sensation you had watching Larry Bird or Magic Johnson (guys more or less his size).

No, there's a separate category for that. I assume the majority of these possessions are guys facing him up and going right past, likely a mix of bigs and smaller guys from switches. Getting burned on switches is yet another reason why the Bulls can't contain ball handler PnR possessions.

This is the real face palm thing about our system, even though we have Gasol fall back on all PnR's to defend the rim due to his slow foot speed, sometimes people still blow by him, even when he's within feet of the rim!

I know this isn't related to this stat in that its purely iso vs him, but the same weakness of his leads to both cases.

I think Gasol has a couple gears with foot speed, usually depending on his energy level for that day. His block rate doubles when he actually has 1 day of rest or more. Unsurprisingly, his offensive efficiency also gets better with more rest. I'm not too worried about Gasol, I think he's going to step up the energy level during the playoffs when it matters the most.

-The whole team is average to bad at contesting spot-up shooters.
-Jimmy Butler's numbers are fairly underwhelming for a guy who has a reputation as a stopper.
-Pau is an AWFUL iso defender (1.11 PPP).
-Small sample size, but Tony Snell allows .4 PPP in iso situations.
-Derrick's numbers are surprisingly solid, despite the obvious deficiencies we see from game to game.

It seems like this was also a strength for Tony in college

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/tony-snell

Strengths: Snell possesses a picturesque shooting stroke and an easygoing on-court style ... If he doesn’t do it smooth, he doesn’t do it ... Sneaky explosive - makes your draw drop every now and then ... At 6’7 he possesses intriguing size for the shooting guard position ... With a high release and solid elevation, he gets unperturbed looks at the bucket. His shot is unblockable ... His jump shot and range are NBA ready right now ... Lights out in catch and shoot situations coming off screens and curls; reads defenses and knows how to get open ... Boasts a “special” 65.3% adjusted FG% shooting off left side screens ... Sets his feet quickly with no wasted movements—right up into the shot ... When afforded time to release in rhythm, might as well just put three points on the board (39% 3PT) ... Snell scored 12.5 points per game as a junior, including .98 PPP against man defense ... Cold blooded shooter in late clock and clutch situations ... He knocks down 84% of his free throws ... Talented ballhandler who can run the show in a crunch ... Efficient decision maker in the pick and roll ... Patient and shifty, effectively utilizes change of pace ... He’s a capable off the dribble playmaker with good vision (2.9 AST) and a knack for drawing the defense (despite his preference to pass) ... Thrived in New Mexico’s ball movement predicated offense ... Dynamite on-ball defender - opponents scored 18.8% of the time against him when isolated ... Very good lateral quickness and tremendous length for a perimeter defender ... Exhibits plus level defensive awareness.

Also, Tony posted the 2nd best agility time (imo, an important factor for on ball defense potential; not that a bad score necessarily means someone doesn't have much agility as it's a structured test that people can train for and anyone can have an off day) in his draft class with a time of 10.36.
