I think Deni is a solid prospect but I really don't see the high upside.
He feels like the "draft for need" pick.
I also think the descriptions of him as a 2-way player are questionable. He's about to be in some deep water trying to defend guys off the dribble.
Give me Onyewu or Hali. Both have better physical profiles to build upon.
Onyewu is Taj Gibson. You dont take Taj Gibson at #4.
That’s where I don’t get it. Physics profiles for those guys don’t fit the new nba blueprint. Hali is skinny as a rail. Not a good profile at all. I could understand if you said skill package etc. No way on physical profile.
As for Okungwu... he’s John Collins. Explosive but too big to defend wings or get by them with the dribble. Look at Siakam... he’s too tall and can’t get past wings.
NBA defenses have gotten so much better and complex. So much switching. Guys that can’t create off the dribble and or switch to guard wings... just not that valuable.
Hali gets dinged for his frame but his wingspan might be elite in the NBA (+6 or 7 inches). He's a better 1 or 2 guard physically than Deni is a 3/4.
Okongwu to me has the best physical profile in the draft along with Edwards and Okoro. And he's a better player right now than both with probably the best supposed intangibles and motor. I think he very much fits the current NBA blueprint. Odd to use Siakam as a counter example. We're a year removed from Siakam being the #2 on a title team.
I'd love it if there was a true wing in this draft with creation talent, shooting potential, and a plus physical profile. Those are the most valuable prospects around! But there's not even one at #1 overall let alone #4.
