Honestly, with the garbage Rose has pulled in the past, this is not an unreasonable request.

The play by play has been exhausting. It would suck to be KC, Friedell, etc today. They were basically TMZ popparazi today.

Patiently awaiting tweets indicating team Melos concern over Derrick "limping when walking/not dunking off of two legs/landing on un injured leg.... Something something Reggie Rose..."

Lol, and why not take less money to play at a championship level for a BIG market team?!

I would rather do that than continue being irrelevant for the next five years.

I'd take the $129 mil all day every day.

Immediatley after school I worked for a non-profit where I helped individuals with disabilities lead more independent lives. Now I work in the private sector and make much more money.

I'm a sellout. Can't condemn others for doing the same.

Fingers crossed Melo comes here but I would never fault him for taking the money.
its different when he already said he could retire now and be set for life. He said he doesn't care about the money. If he takes it now, his word means ****.

I think, out of principal, any Air Jordan contract should have a 30% kicker if the player plays for the Bulls.

At the very least, I don't think the Bulls did anything today that could hurt their chances with the guy. Ultimately though, he's probably already made up his mind. He's not a 17 year old kid, these gimmicks are unlikely to sway him either way. It comes down to what he values, and to some extent the impact of the move on his family. I'll say this - the Bulls will be the team if he leaves New York.

Suiting up and proving your health to a free agent has got to be a blow to the pride.

Good for you, D-Rose. Bravo.

That was the only part that struck me as unbelievable and yet incredibly odd. If Rose did that, folks, that buys Rose a reprieve for agreeing to do it and the Bulls went all OUT! Wow....

If this occurred I don't see as humbling for Rose or some magnamious gesture .....I think it speaks volumes of Derrick Rose that he can get over his own stardom and just be a regular guy who is pulling with his team to land ( probably ) the most signficant free agent signing in Bulls history ( as in a player that wasn't drafted by the Bulls )

Melo is a Top 3 player in the NBA behind Durant and James and is our " over the top" guy

Derrick just wants to weeeeeeeeiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnn

And he's letting his actions match his words

Good for him

Let's not start this yet, but there's a lot of guys that could grab that #3 spot, Rose being one of them! He doesn't just "want to win", he's the former MVP mayn, A LITTLE RESPECT!

How many MVP trophys does Melo have?

After meeting at the facility and discussing the team’s pitch, the group went to dinner at the Peninsula Hotel in downtown Chicago. Anthony, Noah, Rose, Gibson, Thibodeau, Jerry Reinsdorf, Gar Forman and Scottie Pippen were all in attendance at the dinner, according to sources. Rose had to leave the dinner early, but was present for a time.

According to Alex Kennedy's article.

With KC saying he wasn't in attendance, I'm gonna put two and two together and say he left pretty early on into the dinner.

Kinda sucks the GOAT cannot recruit for Da Bulls. I guess owning your own team trumps being Scottie. Lol

mostek wrote:People here have been advocating a Boozer S&T, where the Bulls would get him near his max, so really the only difference would have been the last year. If Melo is near the player some are suggesting here, they would have time to move him, especially to a city that has a hard time attracting FAs.

I am not one of those the think Melo is worth anywhere near the max, but for those that think he is a great player, and were willing to give him near max salary, by attaching multiple assets to Boozer, i a S&T, can not have it both ways.

Max starts him at 22mm and escalates 7.5% annually for the Knicks- if they offer the 5/130. The Knicks poster I quoted mentioned trading him down the road (after their 2015 plan?)- but after the 2015 season- he's damn near untradeable. I've never advocated a max for Melo- 18mm to 20mm per annum feels about right to me. Consider- also- that most players begin to decline at the age of 32 (at least offensively- which is Melo's wheel house)- and you would have a tough time unloading a 32 year old Carmelo still due over $80mm for tangible assets.

2014-15 $22,458,401
2015-16 $24,142,781
2016-17 $25,827,161
2017-18 $27,511,541
2018-19 $29,195,921

He may have had some assurances. Agents talk. Might have been what was requested by Melo.

Doesn't matter, Rose could have told Melo or anyone else "**** off!" The fact that he ran thru a gauntlet of events today is something I find either far-fetched or borderline insane.

I'm convinced that Derrick Rose is the hardest dude to figure out in sports. I just find it unbelievable that a superstar player (whatever he is) would agree to that. Biggest story of the day IMO.

Damn right. I've never heard of anything like this before. And its not a coincidence that Rose was just working out at the UC.

There is a tweet buried somewhere in this thread that did say Rose left early.

He still could. Melo isn't going to Charlotte and I'm sure Melo might reach out to him re: playing in Chicago. I have no doubts that Jordan would talk up the city and the org. They've both treated him well.

Per sources: Reggie Rose doesn't think Carmelo is good enough to play with his brother. Upset the Bulls not targeting Lebron James. Wonders why the Bulls FO are wasting their time. Also, BJ Armstrong is not sure if Derrick should even rush into playing this season and is steamed that the Bulls made him workout and risk further injury.
