Good point- but apparently he rubbed the commish the wrong way and he was involved in several controversies while there. I know here in SF they couldn't wait to get rid of him, even though he was winning.
As a 49ers fan. No the fans did not want to get rid of him. Jed York (the owner) was like 35 and new to being in charge and was super immature about things. I think even he said he handled everything wrong at the time. Is he always easy to get along with no. But its overstated in wearing out his welcome. Ironically York sided with Trent Baalke (current hated Jacksonville GM) over Harbaugh.
From reports I read in the papers here, even the players wanted Harbaugh out at the end of his time in SF. "everyone in the building" was tired of him, was how I think one of the beat reporters put it.
I recall this as well. They felt like he handled the Kap situation poorly and that he also had the tendency to mismanage in critical moments. It wasn’t all of the players. But there was a fracture in that locker room and it was believed that Harbaugh was a major factor in that.
