You might be surprised at how many uneducated folks still place weed on the same level as crack, meth and heroin.
Weed is ONLY dangerous if you get arrested for possessing it.
Nobody is saying Weed is on the same level as crack, meth, and heroin. But Giving weed to the wrong person can have bad effects. Btw I worked on the fire department/ ambulance and saw first hand what weed can do to some people, especially people who have diagnosed/ undiagnosed mental health disorders such as schizophrenia and other issues.
Listen, you're wrong about this. I will agree with you that cannabis use is not for everyone but legalizing it is not going to make anymore people use it that weren't already using it. The vast VAST majority of users have no issues with it, mental health wise and for the minuscule fraction of a percent of people that it does affect could access it just as easily without legalization. That is a fact. It might as well do some greater good in the form of taxes and education of people on the pitfalls, as well as getting higher quality, purer and safer product to the people who do use it. That is what legalization will do.
I have been in the industry and have seen the benefits and the improvements in safety and product quality, firsthand, when you can do things the right way and not have to hide from the law. I've grown thousands of lbs of cannabis and I can tell you that I feel I have helped more people, exponentially more, than I've ever hurt. I had one of the first warehouses in Colorado that opened in 2009 and have grown both medical and recreational. I've grown medical marijuana in Illinois for one of the largest dispensaries there and I just finished getting a farm in Alaska up to standards. In the 5 and half months I was in AK, we paid over $300,000 alone in state excise taxes and employed a dozen people locally. Now there are more jobs and the product is better and safer.
In Colorado the roads actually got safer since the legalization. There have been very little health issues and very close to the same amount of people use it. The problem was that the bordering states still have prohibition and so much of the product was going out of the state. It was worth more in other places which encouraged growers to transport it. There is your crime.
Btw, where I was in AK, there was almost no crime rate at all. Like zero. Maybe a bike getting stolen is about as bad as it gets there. And btw, everyone there has a gun too because you pretty much have to have one. you know, bears and other things.
