Doncic in NBA is definitely a SF, not a PG

His shot is wonderful, he has great range even beyond the tree point line, he moves very well without the ball, he is a good catch and shooter, improving as a cutter, he's improved a lot in terms of playmaking, last year he was attacking the rim more often, which worked out pretty well for him, he's a major tough shot maker and the type of player who can save the game by making 3 long threes in a row. He's a great fastbreak player and his work ethic might be one of the best in the league. He also seems like a really nice guy.
His defense is still bad, but he's getting better. his shot selection is still suspect at times, but this is what great scorers do.
In my opinion he's a max player without a question.
You made me feel like we got a younger Melo in return

Thanks for the insight. I'm happy to have him in Chicago. Dunn and Levine can be a very dynamic backcourt.
Question. Does Minnesota do this deal if Lavine is not injured?

Was hilarious when Paxson said the package wasn't good enough when talking to the TWolves last year about Jimmy.
Since then, Lavine tore his ACL and Dunn had a horrible rookie season. TIME TO STRIKE!
Wow just shows how stupid our FO is. How did these guys get their jobs anyway? Are they at all qualified to run any organization?

Re: The Zach Lavine Problem
There is a big risk to Lavine...But, the silver lining is:
1) He was pretty good pre-injury, and won't be able to add many wins to this season
2) I can't recall many guys who come back mid-season after an ACL that played well enough to warrant a max contract - odds are we can resign him to long-term reasonable deal

Re: The Zach Lavine Problem
I agree with the consensus here. But let me plau devil's advocate.
There might now be any big TV deals coming. But this injury could turn be a "mini-steph" contract. Guy has a serious injury. If we can get him on something that isn't a max deal, then this could make room for a big FA signing going forward.
A type of deal that teams can't pull off unless they luck out

Recovery time is typically 9 months. He should be practicing with the team since the get-go, and back on the court early in the season.

Minesotta fan here, I would have preferred to give you Wiggins before Lavine

He should most definitely be packaged in a trade by the deadline. I'll be furious if not. He's an asset, but not for much longer.

Then you can extend him for something less than the max because it would be a risk for teams to bid up his RFA status. Kind of how Milwaukee is probably going to extend Jabari Parker for much less than the Max.
This. He tore his ACL in February. He may not even be ready by the start of the season.
We have every incentive to bring him along slowly.

I think Lavine is going to be a great asset. He will get paid much less due to his recovery. He will be an uber efficient 22ppg shooter for us.

Luka can play 1-3.

Lavine is who I wanted when we traded for Dougie. I watched almost every game he played in at UCLA.
It will be fun having him.

As long as his knee heals right Im not worried about Lavine, if he proves hes worth the max so be it but he is a long way from that after his ACL tear. I think he was a good pick up but not centerpiece

Re: The Zach Lavine Problem
Guys listen to the Minny fans. This guy is very good.
I'd much rather max him than Jimmy in 2 years. He's already a better scorer than Jimmy will ever be. Plus we got 2 good prospects in Lauri and Dunn? No brainer and exactly what the board has been clamoring for.
Thibs love for Jimmy made him overpay. No other team was offering anything close. We now have flexibility, youth and potential. What did we have at this time yesterday?

Didn't read much of the thread but my thought is simple:
He is not a max player. He should not get the max. If he wants the max, move on via S&T.

Jimmy scores with more volume than Lavine on better efficiency. And that was before Lavine did his knee.
This time yesterday, we had an All-NBA player in his prime and flexibility.

Flexibility for what? Some mystery free agent that would never come here?
