Per video Pat is working on his vocal leadership this summer. I hope that he is focusing on offensive awareness and picking apart the defense by either making the right pass or being aggressive when the play breaks or the shot clock is low. I feel like those are important leadership skills. He can’t be a passive 3D type player with his relative skill here in SL and be a good leader, IMHO

What kind of PR BS is that? He is a 20 year old 2nd year 5th wheel who was virtually invisible on the court playing below replacement player level as a rookie.

They don't need him vocally leading anyone. They need him listening. And they need him working on things like when to cut to the basket, quicker and better shot decisions, his outside jumper etc.

Basic NBA basketball skills we would expect a 19 year old to struggle with.

Yeah, I went back and watched it just because I felt bad I had commented on it without hearing the context. I agree. Fun to watch because... well we are coming out of the offseason... but nothing really to see here.

I'm actually really eager to see this summer league. It was difficult to tell last year whether Patrick was passive because it was his nature or role. Well, his role should be the primary option on this team.

I'm guessing the leading scorer ends up being Devon Dotson or Ayo, but that's just me.

I hope we will see more of that Pat Williams pre-draft showings that went viral, the one that he played with Dinwiddie and Whiteside. That Pat is already awesome, but we're yet to see it in SL or any NBA game.

While putting out the video is obviously PR fluff, I doubt the coaches would lie about what they are focusing on development wise with the players. Any major league organization should have focused areas of improvement for their players, especially young rookies with high hopes.

Pat was a starter for regular season team and seems like a work horse. There are some things you can’t practice alone in a gym. Summer league where he is the standout best player is the perfect time for him to show leadership skills.

Knowing the court and protecting the ball in interior may be goals too, but don’t sound like a major point of improvement. Maybe in the categories of ball handling or offensive awareness, but I don’t know I’ve ever heard a coach make such a specific goals for a player and announce that publicly. In fact, that kinda lets the defense into an issue a player has. If I hear an opposing coach say my match up can’t hold onto the ball in the lane, it changes my approach.

The Portland Trailblazers summer league team has assembled a god squad of talented former NBA players. They have Michael Beasley, Kenneth Faried, Jordan Crawford, Emmanuel Mudiay, and our own Antonio Blakeney on their SL roster.

Kenneth Faried would be a good pick up for us. High energy guy off the bench.

I'm pumped to watch summer league because I was really happy after our moves this offseason, but got deflated with this absurd tampering investigation. I hope the games will get me back to that good offseason feeling.

I've been watching summer league today and one thing I could say is that LiAngelo Ball deserves a chance in the NBA. This kid could really shoot the ball and any team could use a 3 point shooter like him.

I'm always really reluctant to gauge a player based on Summer league. Whether the player plays good or bad, it usually never really translates. I mean, it's nice watching the young players play a game of basketball, but that's pretty much it.

Hell, even pre-season games, it may be slightly more valuable in terms of evaluation, but even then, it's hardly a good indicator. Which is why, I'm not really looking at these upcoming Bulls summer league game as any clear indicator as to how any of them will project to play once the season starts, and just be happy that we have some live basketball to watch.

Was watching the Knicks/Raps...Barnes was impressive, but honestly, Jericho Sims looked even better. Dude was bothering shots on defense, making every shot on offense, nabbing rebounds in traffic, setting beautiful picks. Everything I wanted WCJ to be, be he never became.

He's got more minutes played in the NBA than the guys who have 3 years of experience. He should be the leader of the summer league team. That doesn't stop him also working on mechanical basketball skills, but he should also definitely be working on leadership skill. In 3 years he's going to be the face of the Bulls, or packaged in a trade to somewhere else.
