I'm betting that LaVine was the sticking point in the talks. David Kaplan was reporting shortly before the trade was agreed that he Wolves were offering Dunn and Rubio.

Figure LaVine is back by Jan. If he plays well he'll get a good payday. I don't mind paying a 22y/o big money as long as he healthy and next year we will see. If he struggles we will get him on a bargain.

If Lavine is back and playing well, he's going to get maxed. I don't want to max out Lavine. Lavine at his best won't lead us anywhere.

Probably why a smart GM traded him and his bust for our all star.

I'm not a fan of the trade. However, it's possible we couldn't have gotten a better offer. I'm glad we chose to rebuild. We weren't going to sign big time free agents.

I loved Dunn coming out. Still very high on him.

I see some serious talent in Dunn. Hopefully he bounces back this year. Bulls should give him free reign so we can find out what we have in him.

They'll be a playoff team. And they have a lot of potential. They just gotta play D.

I feel for Jimmy. I think he really wanted to stay in Chicago to build the team back into a winner. Thanks to the two morons running the franchise, they realized they had no assets behind him in order to make that happen.

He may be the 2nd greatest draft pick the Bulls have ever made. I really don't like the taste in my mouth right now. This night has been a major letdown.

Who cares about being a playoff team when you have no shot to win a title?

Cowley's last article was a joke. He might as well added Butler or his agent as a contributing writer. All the BS about Kyrie and how Butler is a recruiter.

So we traded Rose and then Butler a year apart.

I really need to know what Denver offered for Jimmy.
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?
Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong.
KC: You were asked that question at the news conference announcing Thibodeau's dismissal and you answered yes

They're not winning next year but Kat and Butler are top 20 players. If Wiggins elevates his game, they can contend at some point.

But 29 teams have no shot at the title next year.

Why even follow a team with this mentality?

Because the practical application of such a thought is to tank every year till you get a MJ or LeBron. That's the level of talent that wins titles in the NBA. Or Durant+Steph+Dray type superteam.

The Bulls right now have NO shot to win a title, are much farther away than we were a few hours ago when we actually had one star/superstar. We have no visible path to even imagine how a title would happen for at least 3 or 4 years and that is if everything went amazing with player growth and great drafting going forward.

Even getting back to .500 is a likely 3-5 years process (like Pax's first run at GM), let alone thinking about how you then go from .500 to a real contender.

At the end of season presser, Paxson was gushing over Thomas and talking about how you need speedy athletic point guards to win in this league. I'm not surprised at all that they traded Butler for Dunn.

They should get a nice player at 38. A lot of players w/ upside should be there.

Ideally, we can trade Lavine.

All those Rose vs Butler debates sure do seem silly now
I'm not here to argue.
