Exceptions to the Rule

Post#1341 » by Ranma » Sat Jun 11, 2016 8:38 pm

Quake Griffin wrote:Well, that's one Boras Client we'd be paying with another (Seager) coming down the pike....and another (Urias) coming down the pike if all goes well....oh and do we still like Jose Fernandez and that slurve (my goodness it's filthy)? And hopefully the last contract Kershaw signs as a Dodger is here in 2018.

I mean...in a perfect world, there's going to be tons of people to pay BIG money to.
I could see the actual use of trading for Manny and seeing if he has a little Strasburg in him so we can try and lock him up to somewhere below market value.

I also am weary of prime defensive position players being signed past 30. I can live with it on the corners.
But also, I can see Manny having a 3-4 year opt out on his free agent deal and getting another go at free agency at age 30.

Trout is one guy where I'd have less concern with Boras as his agent. Money also would not be an issue for me with regards to signing him depending on how old he is if and whenever we acquire him. He's basically got the Clayton-Kershaw blank check to play with. I don't have the same regard for Bryce Harper despite his obvious generational talent.

I'm still interested in Jose Fernandez but still not interested in meeting Miami's outrageous asking price for him, especially when he'll be a free agent in a couple of years. Similarly to Harper, he also does not get carte blanche with regards to his contract demands.

I also agree with you about not signing players at prime defensive positions past 30, so we'd be lucky to get Manny Machado as a 25-year-old UFA with my personal aim for him to be our SS.

Wasting an A-Gon Homer in the 10th Inning

Post#1345 » by Ranma » Sun Jun 12, 2016 3:44 am

Kenley has not been sharp the past two games against the Giants. Trayce played an excellent game overall but his misread of that fly ball in RF in the 10th inning doomed us in setting up Posey for the game-winning hit.

How many blown saves is too many for this guy?
Not rhetorical. I'd take a real answer to that question.

Was at some gala dinner so I couldnt watch it.
Still annoyed. We had a series win 3 outs away and instead, we, AGAIN, send out our 19 year old in a hostile environment when we're in need of a W.

Kenley's Future in Dodger Blue

Post#1347 » by Ranma » Sun Jun 12, 2016 5:26 am

The thing is that we don't have another reliable option to closing right now unless you think Hatcher or Baez is it. Maybe we should have stuck with Blanton tonight given Jansen's struggles last night despite the save. I can't blame Roberts for going with Jansen tonight thinking he was shaking off rust, but I've been hesitant to commit to Kenley as our long-term closer, which is why I was looking forward to acquiring Aroldis Chapman before his DV incident and advocating for Grant Holmes and now Jordan Sheffield to be groomed as our closer of the future.

I believe this is Kenley's 3rd blown save of the season when he had only 2 last season. We'll see how he performs for the rest of the season but tonight obviously didn't quell any concerns about him being our long-term answer as closer. Maybe he's currently dealing with an undisclosed injury.

I thought he was going to be close to perfect this year and I was loading up my guns to get mad at Friedman for not re-signing him.

With every blown save, the picture of a qualifying offer being presented to him with no intent to sign him enters my head even more clearly than the day before.

Hey, next year's draft is stacked right?

Adding Another Draft Pick via Qualifying Offer to Jansen

I don't know about stacked in terms of depth, but the talent should be better at the top. Based on an early report from Kiley McDaniel before he left FanGraphs, there seems to be a few high school arms that may be intriguing should they fall to us, but Hudson Belinsky noted yesterday that the strength of the class are college arms and 2-way prep prospects. I'm looking forward to seeing his notes on the 2017 class if he posts them today as he said he would.

Neddy, Olney said that Urias has about 70 innings left to reach his innings limit.
He's at 51.2 IP....so it's close to the figure you wanted.

That's the first figure/ estimate I heard about his innings limit, so I thought I'd share it.

This kid's make up is off the charts.

I'm scared/ nervous of his 3 of his first 4 starts being at CHC, NYM and SFG.
I am.
He's not.

Just have to say it. #dodgers not in the same class defensively as #sfgiants, and it's not close.

Hometown Ump

Post#1360 » by Ranma » Mon Jun 13, 2016 2:17 am

The homeplate ump has been squeezing Urias on a couple of calls, then gives Peavy that low strike call on A-Gon. Adrian called him out on it.
