And hopefully the last contract Kershaw signs as a Dodger is here in 2018.
I mean...in a perfect world, there's going to be tons of people to pay BIG money to.
I could see the actual use of trading for Manny and seeing if he has a little Strasburg in him so we can try and lock him up to somewhere below market value.
I also am weary of prime defensive position players being signed past 30. I can live with it on the corners.
But also, I can see Manny having a 3-4 year opt out on his free agent deal and getting another go at free agency at age 30.
Trout is one guy where I'd have less concern with Boras as his agent. Money also would not be an issue for me with regards to signing him depending on how old he is if and whenever we acquire him. He's basically got the Clayton-Kershaw blank check to play with. I don't have the same regard for Bryce Harper despite his obvious generational talent.
I'm still interested in Jose Fernandez but still not interested in meeting Miami's outrageous asking price for him, especially when he'll be a free agent in a couple of years. Similarly to Harper, he also does not get carte blanche with regards to his contract demands.
I also agree with you about not signing players at prime defensive positions past 30, so we'd be lucky to get Manny Machado as a 25-year-old UFA with my personal aim for him to be our SS.
