Difference in Resources Devoted

I can't imagine just what kind of cut rate coaches he had hired that were in charge of talent development in the minors in those days.

I'm certainly not blaming White for the lack of resources in our developmental system. Even before McCourt, we were not known to spend lavishly on our minor leagues under the O'Malleys or even Fox. We were definitely players in the international market,
but like you said, McCourt just cheaped out to extremes once he took over. To be fair, the Guggenheim Baseball Group has invested money and resources very few MLB teams can compete with.

The thing about White was that he had a certain profile in mind when he drafted players, which I agreed with for the early draft picks but that seemed to hinder finding gems in the later rounds and particularly with position players. We rarely had notable homegrown athletic outfielders develop who weren't signed as international prospects. Matt Kemp stood out because he was such a rarity for the organization. Maybe White knew it was a lost cause with our lack of developmental acumen and resources back then.

Silver Fox Not Exactly Majestic

Yeah, Chase has looked overmatched in both at-bats in this game as well as in Game 2.

there were a few that did pan out elsewhere. Scott Schebler is one, the returnee Franklin Gutierrez is another. but yeah in terms of a super star caliber, Kemp was it for like a decade or longer.

lack of better option. as soon as the Cubs bring in a lefty reliever to counter our right handed heavy front half, we will counter with Granderson (yuck) and Logan Forsythe.

I was thinking of Raul Mondesi but he was an international signing. The other notable player I recall we missed out on was Paul Konerko, who seemed like the heir apparent to Eric Karros before doing well with the White Sox.

well we had Paul K and we knew he was good. it was Tommy who was being loyal to EK giving him a life time contract that triggered that trade, but we wasn't an OF.... at least i thought we were talking exclusively about OFers.

Yu is through 4 innings with 56 pitch count. he should be good for two more innings easy.

on the other hand, he is facing the lineup for the third time from the leadoff spot to start the next inning. this will be tough.

I would start the bullpen now. knowing Jansen/Maeda/Morrow are now the last 3 inning guys with Watson and Cingrani being potential add ons or spot relievers if we include the 6th, Field should be warming up along with one of the Tonys just in case.

We were. I forgot to mention that in my post as I got distracted by news of the Gordon Hayward injury. Yikes.

Pederson's Message to the Haters

Joc flips us all the finger by doubling to lead off the top of the 5th inning. Way to show us, young fella.

Taylor Does It Again!

Post#920 » by Ranma » Wed Oct 18, 2017 2:32 am

Chris Taylor is killing it with an aggressive triple to score Pederson after Rizzo ably fielded that pretty well-placed bunt by Darvish. That's what I'm talking about, Dodgers!
