If Cavs Trade Wiggins For Love, Who is the Starting 2 guard?

Post#1 » by Rod700 » Tue Jul 29, 2014 2:01 pm

If Cavs Trade Wiggins For Love, who is the starting 2 guard? I think the best fit would be an athletic utility defender that can run the floor with Lebron. No need for him to have range with Love, Lebron, and Kyrie on the floor. Who is available? Marion is leaving Dallas and may look to hop on with a team for a title run. I know he is old but he can still play D, gets up and down the floor, and bring a little extra floor spacing and rebounding as well. Could probably get him for the vet min. Any thoughts? Who else is available?

Do you think his D is good enough to be the primary perimeter defender?

If dion for whatever reason got traded too (I don't think he would) I would expect the Cavs to ask for Brewer from Minny. He would be a perfect fit in that lineup

Man I can't wait for people outside of Cleveland to see how good this kid is. Criminally underrated considering all this team has been through.

The answer is clearly Dion.

Is his relationship with Irving overblown?

I've been thinking this all along! We need a 2 who can defend the floor well because too much offense is too much. Dion should not start if he stays we need him off the bench as a spark. We'll be fine in the starting lineup without him. But one things for sure... we would lack in d in the starting lineup with this crew. A good defender is what I see.

So does that mean his defense is under-rated? Could he be the primary perimeter defender?

I think Marion could be had for the vet min. I say use him as a starting primary perimeter defender, and let Dion lead the 2nd unit.

Hard to say, but I know one thing, there wont be any "buddy ball" or freezing anybody out with Lebron here. The guy is all about winning and these young guys are going to get an education about playing together.

Marion is more of a SF/PF to me. He would be a nice addition but don't see him playing effectively on the wing.

Dion is a better defender than he gets credit for. If Wiggins goes he makes sense at SG. He can shoot with range and as the Spurs showed having guys who can shoot AND also put the ball on the floor is valuable.

Primary / elite defender no. But he could be quite a good defender, he improved his defence a lot last season but still has a way to go

You can tell who the bandwagon cas fans are based solely on opinions of waiters.

No Dion sucks he's just living off his past reputation.

Seriously this needs to stop. This is the Cavs' board. Just lock it.

Who says they are Cavs fans? Most likely, they are trying to get Dion on the cheep. The actual Cavs fans were posting with us last year.

I'm just trying to get a feel for the* team. I've only asked questions except for maybe the notion that a veteran primary perimeter defender could be prudent to have while young talent develops. And for anyone who didn't bother to read the OP, I'm inquiring about perimeter defensive skills, not overall talent.

I don't understand the notion of getting Dion cheap. It's not like anything we say or do here affects the real world.

Dion Waiters is going to start regardless if Wiggins is here or not. Wiggins is still raw offensively and I see him eventually get major minutes come all star time.

I still believe we need Waiters production off the bunch because of his numbers. His offense won't be needed if we get Love. We will seem deeper if he's a sixth man for sure. Besides the fact that he could lead that unit of older players.
