I pragmatically understand the Schoop choice (although could end up regretting it) because Shaw is poor against lefties and lacks defensive range.

But Perez should not be starting over Arcia at this point in the season. In addition to the superior defense, Arcia has a .700 OPS this month. And he was in similar form last month. Punished for that bone-headed base-running and choice to bunt with a runner on 3rd? I don't think this is the time.

Irrelevant as it pertains to the decision whether it works out in the same way that it was that Hader allowed 3 runs last night.

CCs been doing this all year. Getting everyone rest and Shaw as you said is batting .200 against lefties.

Perez vs Arcia, i don't see the big deal.

Hitters don't absolutely need "rest", and they shouldn't be getting it in crunch time.

From an odds' standpoint, I explained the big deal on paper between Arcia and Perez. Superior hitting #'s recently and defense in general.

I’m more concerned by Perez and Schoop than i am Gio. I fully expect the Cards to get 4 runs. I also fully expect Perez and Schoop to K a combined 5-6 times.

I'm not coming after you (while totally coming after you) but what is the bar for when people finally just at least say, "well, maybe this is a newfangled baseball decision and I'll see what happens"? Is it 95 wins? We just crossed 90.

We've got 10 years of data to show that Mike McCarthy is a negative impact on the Packers and he's doing outdated **** daily. When he makes a decision, I'm fine trying to decide why it is stupid immediately.

I just see it as weird that a management team that is clearly exceeding expectations every year in all facets at literally every turn has people see a move and try to decide why it is terrible. Like, did people think Jennings was going to try to go 3 innings?

There have been failures like the Schoop trade just being at best lateral but remember when everyone thought it was insane that they were putting a 3rd baseman at 2nd base? It seems like it's a good idea to just sit back and at least try to assume that maybe they have some information they believe will give them an edge.

I don’t doubt they have that information. I also think Counsell is an average at best strategist. He’s improved his bullpen feel as they’ve deepened their playoff run AND i would very easily propose they should be in first place. His utter misuse, and he and Stearns’ utter miscalculations of bullpen talent or abilities, of the bullpen amd pitching staff cost them at minimum 5 wins. That’s huge. I laud them for their results, no doubt about it. I’m stoked to be here today in this situation as a fan. I also criticize them for their shortcomings - it’s a 2-way street. Drake early in the season was uber costly. Williams w his 8 outing struggle was very costly. The leash on Knebel was too long. Albers. Barnes. Jennings gave up 4 games in a playoff stretch. I’ve never cared about Shaw at 2nd - they need the bat. My point has been and is: pitching feel. Period. I stand by it. 90 wins or not.

Maybe everybody on the team just needs to change their launch angle.

Sucks that Schoop hasn't been able to get it going because hitting Hernan Perez 5th in such a meaningful game is pretty gross.

clears the bases! What a smooth swing. Always expect him to make solid contact at balls in the zone. This game is broken open, for now.
