How do you not get a proven star for that kind of package? That's a haul for the Marlins.
If they valued Brinson so much to turn down 3 extra prospects from Texas, why trade him a year later in a 4 prospects for 1 player package a year later?
Why concede Diaz specifically when he's a middle infielder and they may need help there going forward and he was a bright prospect?
The big need for this team is a starting pitcher/ace. Should have been able to snare that. Instead they go outfielder, which they had a surplus of, and traded someone with as high of upside or higher away. Sure they didn't mean Broxton?
The guy needed to be majorly held back by that ballpark (didn't stop Stanton) and a perennial all-star to justify this. FWIW, he was significantly better on the road than home. He had an .852 OPS and .938 OPS on the road the last two seasons. It's one season's worth over 2 of high .800. I guess that's what they're looking at. It's a leap of faith.
I realize Stearns has been pretty money so far, but every decision should be evaluated individually. This one is curious, and confirms concern about the Lucroy/Jeffress return at the time.
Diaz is realistically blocked by Dubon and Huira
