Bleh.

Although Hawkins will at least be on a cheap one-year deal.

I think this is a solid signing, if he flops...he flops...you don't lose anything except for a marginal amount of cash (in Yankee standards).

Nope.

But yeah, it's pretty much a low-risk, moderate-reward move. They're better off trying this than going for some of the better relievers on the market this year, who are all looking for big money (Gagne) or multi-year deals (Vizcaino, Linebrink, etc.). Middle relievers are fickle year-to-year producers as a group so it's always a losing situation to be looking for them when the market is favoring free agents. If we're lucky, Hawkins is an OK option to eat up innings. If not, off the plank he goes.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

He can't be any worse than Bruney, Britton, and the bunch....

He can be very good, he struggled while on bad teams in SF and Baltimore, but bounced back last season and while in the National league it was also Coors. He isn't someone you are going to hand the 8th inning to but he is a decent match up guy from the right side.

Its a good move. He's a proven arm but free agent relievers are always a crap shoot. Even when they work out for you there is no guarentee will be effective the following season. Since the contract is only for one year we don't really lose anything by signing him.

I'd still like to see us add another reliable bullpen arm. Damaso Marte would be ideal, but he may be too expensive in a trade.

I am glad he won't be back for the Rox, very erratic.

2.18 ERA 1.05 WHIP in 12+ innings against the Red Sox last 2 years.

Actually his overall ERA over the past 3 years vs. the AL East is 3.19

Take out the Yankees=2.54 ERA

Didn't Hawkins almost single-handedly help the Yanks win the playoffs series against his team the Twins some years back?
