All right everybody, we have a veteran minimum backup C. He'll make less than Juwan Howard, so how do you substantiate those kinds of expectations?
If he fouls out of 1 game, we got what we wanted as long as he doesn't do it like Bubba Wells.

10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

If you look at Magloire's per minute rebounds and blocks over the past 3 seasons, they haven't fallen off at all. In his two seasons prior to this year, his per-minute production was pretty much identical...solid, but nothing great. This season, his TOs and fouls are up, while the shooting percentages are all down. To me, those are all concentration and focus issues...the tell-tale signs of an unhappy player, IMO.
Since he obviously wants to be in Dallas, and is now on a winning team in a great environment, I expect those numbers to improve. I wouldn't doubt at all if he puts up numbers fairly similar to his 06-07 numbers (roughly 6 and 6 on 50% shooting in about 20 MPG).

No, his rebounding hasn't and his blocks have been steady but they have fallen off from where they used to be, at least blocks. I carefully avoided mentioning his rebounding in that regard because he's mostly been good there.

I can see that, maybe, if Kidd helps him a lot. We'll see. It'd be very good for the playoffs if Magloire became a really nasty bench center for the Mavs and it'd be amazing if he could challenge Ericka for the starting spot.

All we need from Magloire is for him to give us 15-20 MPG of the production he's averaged over the past 3 years. That's my point.

He'd have to get back to his All-Star production to even approach Dampier. "Ericka" is actually a pretty damn solid center.

Damn! Everything since the Harris-Kidd debate I agree with DDan completely. I think he has me on ignore and some of the stuff he says looks like my stuff (i.e. on this post, Magloire's '06-07 stats).DDansby123 wrote:He'd have to get back to his All-Star production to even approach Dampier. I get that, I'm just saying that it'd be nice if he provided more.

Thppbbtt. Let's say we have a difference of opinions on that account. He's a very simple player who does simple things reasonably well and he's a good rebounder. He's an acceptable center.

Nothing is new about that.tsherkin wrote:Thppbbtt. Let's say we have a difference of opinions on that account. He's a very simple player who does simple things reasonably well and he's a good rebounder. He's an acceptable center.
95% of non-mav fans don't want Dampier on their team
95% of Mav fans don't want Dampier to leave our team
Dampier and Brad Miller are the 2 best pick setters in the league, IMO (at least top 5). Dampier doesn't take stupid shots...63% last year and 64% this year on FG. He mans the middle of the lane preventing many drives to the lane and big men from running over the defense in middle. He blocks some of the ones that do get there. He is one of the better rebounders (7.2 in 23.5 min) in the league. He has many tap backs that don't always count as rebounds.
He is no all-star, but he does what we want him to do and is a perfect compliment to an offensive PF like Dirk. Like DDansby stated, "is actually a pretty damn solid center."
Edit: Since the Kidd addition, he is avg: 8.0 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 2.8 BPG, 1.0 APG & 0.8 SPG in 31.3 min.

I would still like to see them snag Cassell from Boston and if Barry is interested, we could waive Allen to make room as Dirk/Bass/JuHoward/Dampier/Magloire is fine up front.
I'm intrigued with Barry as a possible starter in the lineup with Kidd. If we offered him a little more money than everyone else and a starting position, I think we could get him.
Although old, he is still fairly athletic and a good shooter. Not a great defender, but certainly better than Terry.
I think I'd like Barry as a starter in the short term until a guy like Sebutis or Wright (or someone else) is able to fill that role. If there is enough left for Cassell, I'd go for that too.
I would cut Howard before Allen. At least Allen can score. I can't think of anything that Howard can do for us.
