Does this mean the Yankees think the asking price for Suarez is too high, and decided on a different route?

Suarez to Jays. No chance D backs don't trade him before deadline

Trade talks between the Yankees and Diamondbacks over Eugenio Suárez stalled after Arizona asked for a MLB player, an upper-level prospect (AA/ AAA), and at least one lower-level prospect, per industry sources.

Who would those assets be?

I

I assume the MLB player was the recently promoted Schlitter -- or maybe Ben Rice. If its just two B level prospects after that its not an unreasonable ask. An AA/AAA prospect and a low level prospect is pretty vague.

#1. Harrison Bader from Minnesota for Alan Roden
and a #15-#30 organizational prospect. Bader is a RHB to try to get some lineup balance, that is good defensively. The defensive value is what attracts this management team.

#2. Luis Severino from Oakland
for a pitching prospect between #4-#8 in the organization, Emanuel Clase, and possibly Chad Green(we eat 50-80%). Severino is attractive to the Jays as he is retained through 2027, and he will just fill the salary spot of Bassitt or Scherzer.

2 relievers - one good, and one struggling veteran.

#1. A high leverage 7th-8th inning type.
#2. A veteran who is underperforming in 2025 and will be cheap. A better version of Chad Green in 2025, but not that much better either. The hope that a competitive environment sparks something.

You mean Jonatan Clase for Severino. Emmanuel Clase is the closer for Cleveland that I would love to have. He was the best relief pitcher in all of MLB last year. Cleveland is asking for the moon for him from all accounts. So I doubt that happens. I like your train of thought, and I agree the Jays will most likely be making the moves along the lines you mention.

Yes certainly Jonatan.

I think I would like a better power bat than Bader.... he is at a good OPS+ of 109 this year, better than prior years. But I just feel this is the type of player Shatkins has gone for.
