It's really not even fair how those negotiations went.

Dude, you just got a legitimate ace at a cheap contract for the next 2 years. Don't go jumping off a bridge quite yet, this move just put you a lot closer to the playoffs.

Wasn't JP Riccardi's biggest mistake "going for it" after the Jays had that good season in his second year? I think AA has a plan. Maybe another trade for Greinke is closer than we thought. Hell, the Royals were in talks with the Brewers so maybe the Royals said in passing they liked Lawrie or whoever's coming our way. Otherwise, AA is sticking to his plan on rebuilding. If it's Lawrie that's involved, he's only 1-2 years away.

If it's about the money then we wouldn't be linked to some high profile players - ie. Greinke, Reynolds, Ramirez, Heath Bell etc.

Richard Griffin is saying that the second prospect might be Nick Bucci, a 20 year old Canadian RHSP in low-A who is just tad raw. That means it isn't Nick Bucci, because we're talking about Richard Griffin.

Not only were there Marcum trade rumors last trade-deadline; he's also the only "top 4 starter" in our rotation who isn't both young and signed on long term. He was absolutely one of the most likely to get traded.

The Brewers have Yovani Gallardo, Marcum might not be their ace but that doesn't mean this is a bad trade for MIL

ever heard of this concept called selling high?

That's a great strategy, maybe he did?

Hes just as likely to have a better season this year as a worse one, introduce the possibility of injuries and I argue this is selling high.

Gonna miss Marcum and don't mind dealing him. But I feel we could of packaged him up with a prospect or two to fill in a void at another position. We have many many prospects...so I don't know about trading for more.

Justification like... pitching being a major area of strength for our team, getting great talent in return, Marcum is probably too old (29 in a few days) to be relied upon as part of the core, and will be even older when it's time to pay up?

You're being needlessly cynical.

Not cynical, I'm just trying to understand why they traded a 3.5 WAR prospect for prospects. Doing that sets the 2011 team back significantly.

Sarnia native. Was awesome in the Pioneer League in 2009. Struggled with control in the Midwest League last year. Similar stuff to Marcum.

If he's in the trade you guys have to keep the Baby-Faced Assassin nickname.

not really, Rzep is pretty likely put in a solid year, without a rotation spot open he would have been mvoed to a useless bullpen role.

I didn't know that Kris Humphries' younger brother was a pitcher.

Selling high is great, and I've been asking for them to do it with Marcum for a while. I'm just not sure why they sold him high for a package of prospects.

You can't expect a guy like Rzep, Litsch, Drabek, or Stewart to put up a season like Marcum just had.
