Always had a feeling Encarnacion would want to extend after seeing him here the last couple years. Seems like he's really comfortable here, and the contract is more than reasonable.

I don't think we are sellers, but I think that if they couldn't get a deal in place, AA might've felt forced to move him regardless of the season. IMO the deal's steep for 1 year of real production, but if he'd held out for real FA and finished the season strong, he'd have gotten more, so I'm content.

Depending on how things go between now and deadline I could see KJ sold off still. IMO that, like EE's extension, depends far more on their contract demands than the actual productivity of the ballclub.

Other than those two, there aren't really things to sell off other than some crappy 'pen arms.

edit: BTW, I mean by the end of Aug, not the non-waiver. I never understand how or why, but I pretty much assume deals for almost any player can happen until then.

Now that I think about it, wonder if this just drives up his value in potential trade talks now that he's signed to a contract rather than be treated as a rental. Either way...ENCARNACIONNNNNNN

Good for Edwin, and at an affordable price for 3-4 years. Hopefully he can continue to be a productive run producer as he has been this year.

Pleasantly surprised that this actually got done. Rogers dusting off those stacks of fives.

Solid deal. It's risky to hand out this much cash based on half a year of production, but at least it's only for three years guaranteed as opposed to five. Also, EE has a track record of hitting around .800 OPS, which wouldn't be worth the contract, but is still a decent contribution for the amount. If he continues to post a .900+ OPS, it's a great deal.

I'm glad for Edwin! He's really put in the work to become the player he is today, and was smart enough when he saw what Jose was doing, to become his shadow. I like this signing. If he has a similar second half, he's pushing 15mill/per on the open market.

yay i'm happy. amazing rebirth for eddie. a year ago everyone including myself were nearly through with him. all those brutal errors. but since he's become a very scary bat in the middle of the order and one of my favourite jays. also helps that he hasn't been abominable at first base when needed. this signing pretty much guarantees a serious attempt at playoff contention next season too, so at least we have that to look forward to now.

he was also at african lion safari yesterday if that means anything lol

Woohoo, I was really worried a team would throw 12 mil a year at him and we would let him walk. Not a bad contract at all for somebody that could hit a .950 OPS with 40 homers this year.

The biggest question mark is whether he can repeat this performance next season. Other than a small doubt i think this is a fair value signing, he might have gotten more on the open market.

Good deal for EE. I'm liking this deal going forward. Keeps some protection for Bautista in the lineup.
