Great signing, was expecting over $10 mil per year at the very least.

Yeah unless he slumps in the second half he could have got a LOT more on the open market but it also makes sense from his side. Not only does he only have about 1 season worth of above average performance but I am sure he is much more comfortable in the jays clubhouse than he would be anywhere else. Not to mention AA kept faith in him when a lot of fans and media had lost patience.

Agreed, excellent deal. Only $9M, and only 3 years. Couldn't ask for more than that. And the usual option year, too. Well done.

No doubt he would have got a lot more on the open market, great signing!

I like that it clears up the uncertainty too. Come free agency we'll be able to focus our attention on other needs knowing exactly what he have at DH/1B.

Source: Encarnacion deal with #BlueJays is $29M for 3 yrs, not $27M. Annual salaries of $8M, $9M and $10M, plus $2M buyout on $10M option.

He's just gonna get fat now. Predicting he eats himself to a contract albatross by 2013 Q3.

If he gets fat, who cares. DH him. He can hit and that's all that matters.

I bet he likes chicken wings... see what I did there?

Still don't mind the deal.

Assuming Edwin has a second half like the first, how much do you think a .295 BA, .947 OPS, 40 HR & 115 RBI guy would command on the open market? Sure, it's one great season (if you include the 2nd half last year), but so was Bautista. This deal is pretty 'low-risk, high-reward'...and if he tanks..well.. ROGERS HAS LOTS OF MONEY! :D

Yeah, the years and the dollars are both quite digestible.

The raw numbers: In 2011, he hit five home runs and .264 in 246 at-bats on those pitches; this year, he's hitting .273 -- but with 11 home runs in 132 at-bats.
