They will spend money to prevent the fans from abandoning the team, but that is completely separate issue than how they allocate revenue. With Bautista and Edwin likely to leave town, they will probably need to spend big to maintain attendance and fan interest, unless they make the playoffs. If we make the playoffs, they can spend less since they'll have huge season ticket sales and renewals already on the books for 2017 from people who want a chance at playoff seats. In that case, they wouldn't need to worry about spending big until after the 2017 season is over.
