Jays have highest attendance in AL so far this year

Post#1 » by gei » Fri Jul 8, 2016 3:53 pm

Jays #5 in average home attendance this year, #1 in the AL - ahead of the Yankees, Angels, Boston (smaller stadium to be fair), KC, etc.

Very impressive. Rogers would be fools to not ride this wave of new interest. Then again, they are fools, so who knows...

With all that money filling their coffers, one would hope that payroll doesn't decrease going forward. Certainly there should be enough to bring back EE for elite DH money on a 3 year deal. I'm not sure if there's enough for EE and Saunders though - too early to gauge his market based on one excellent (so far) season.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

There's enough to sign every player in baseball, the question is if it makes sense as a financial investment. They won't spend $25M on a player if it only brings back $10M in revenue.

That's crazy! I wonder how many people did show up last year, was our record as good as this last year at the half?

Doubt it, they were only selling out on Weekends until they went on that run the last 2 months. Now they have 36k+ even on weekdays which is good to see.

Edit: Oh yea, Toronto only cares about Hockey btw.

This wont do anything unfortunately. Rogers will still be cheap.

They like to hide how much money they make from the Jays.

Rogers see's an increase in revenue and they attribute it to their other services and ignore the Jays.

They know exactly how much the Jays make them. For profit sharing and other accounting reasons they allocate it "creatively" but they aren't stupid. They will spend money to prevent the fans from abandoning the team, but that is completely separate issue than how they allocate revenue. With Bautista and Edwin likely to leave town, they will probably need to spend big to maintain attendance and fan interest, unless they make the playoffs. If we make the playoffs, they can spend less since they'll have huge season ticket sales and renewals already on the books for 2017 from people who want a chance at playoff seats. In that case, they wouldn't need to worry about spending big until after the 2017 season is over.

After 91 games last season the Jays were 45-46.

Definitely not buying that. Investors are too sophisticated to be not understand the full picture of Rogers. Also, EBITDA is far from the only thing that matters.

Yeah, investors aren't that stupid to be ignorant of the fact that Rogers has a sweetheart deal with the Jays for media rights. They know when the Jays are successful, advertising rates increase dramatically. They wouldn't blindly look at a standard accounting formula.

I went to a 4 PM game on a Wednesday (against Arizona) a few weeks back and was surprised how packed it was. Pretty incredible to see how far we've come.

Also, things like earnings per share and cash flows would be affected the same regardless of whether it was the Leafs of Jays situation.
