Ohka Officially Released

Tomo Ohka is no longer a Blue Jay. He was designated for assignment on June 8th, making today the 10th and final day for Toronto to make a move on the Japanese pitcher.

I was hoping that we'd at least get something in return during these 10 days, but I guess Ohka's not worth much with his consistent short outings.

The Toronto Blue Jays released starting pitcher Tomo Ohka Monday.

Ohka, started 10 games for the Jays, posting a 2-5 record with a 5.79 ERA.

In 56 innings, the native of Kyoto, Japan allowed 68 hits, 10 home runs, walked 22 and had 21 strikeouts. Ohka, 31, was signed as a free agent in January 2007 to a one-year deal.

At the beginning of the season I thought Tomo would be able to keep his spot as the 5th team starter, but with the way McGowan and Marcum are pitching right now I don't see how the Jays needed Ohka.

He had 1 good start, against the Rangers on April 29th, which was his last win in the Jays uniform.

I had decent expectations for Ohka, and it's sad that it didn't work out. Oh well, we move on.

I also really believed he would work out as our 4/5 starter, expected more than he gave us.

It seemed like every strike he threw was a hit waiting to happen. He couldn't keep the ball down when he was even hitting the zone.

More walks than Ks? Yikes.

Of course, Towers isn't much better. Hooray JP Riccardi.

He's actually alot better.

Towers is Toronto's BEST K/BB ratio starting pitcher. Amazingly enough.

Halladay 54/14 (roughly 4:1)
Burnett 100/40 (roughly 2.5:1)
McGowan 40/20 (2:1)
Marcum 61/21 (roughly 3:1)
Towers 42/7 (6:1)

So there you have it. Towers hasn't been pitching bad, he's just pitching bad enough to lose. Whether TOR scored 5 and Josh gives up 6, or TOR scores 0 and Towers gives up 1, that's Towers for you. Pitches bad enough to lose.....it's too bad, because his numbers this year almost warrant that contract of his.

The Cardinals, desperate for rotation help, have signed right-hander Tomo Ohka to a minor-league contract, FOXSports.com has learned.

Ohka, 31, will start Wednesday night for the Cardinals' Class AAA Memphis affiliate in Round Rock, Tex., against the Astros' top farm club.
If he is not promoted to the majors within 10 days, he will have the right to pursue other opportunities, according to a source with knowledge of his deal.

Ohka gets picked up by the Cards. Maybe the NL will treat him better

I agree with you completely, Towers has been fine this year. Hes a #5 starter so its pretty unlikly hes ever going to toss a CG gem. Last game giving up 4 runs through 7 innings, thats not bad at all. He just need some run support, any run supoprt! Everyone, incl me are too quick to jump on him when he gives up a bomb because of how godaweful he was last season, but still, hes been much much better this year and he deserves to keep that 5 spot for now
