I think if Mills' last outing was at least decent, he would have got it. This has more to do with Mills getting rocked than Richmond pitching great.

I think if Mills' last outing was at least decent, he would have got it. This has more to do with Mills getting rocked than Richmond pitching great.

Either way, Cecil is going to be up to take this job (or Romero's I suppose) by May.

Richmond is fine for now...at least he throws strikes.

strange how Richmond got the nod as the 5th starter only because Mills had a bad outing. I didn't think that was the fair thing to do, considering Richmond stunk it out today as well...

Not really strange at all.

When a 24 year old prospect you are really high on stinks it up, you want him back in the minors to work out what went wrong. If a 29 year old future journeyman sucks it up, you leave him out there until you have a better option.

(Also, to be less pesamistic, a) Richmond has shown an ability to pitch against major leaguers that Mills has yet to, and b) Richmond hasn't had enough innings to get fully into shape yet, thanks to Team Canada.)

Agreed- Brett Cecil will be with this team soon, but we wont have 3 lefties in the rotation. Something else will have to be done.

** Thumbs down** Richmond's garbage. Best case scenario for him is to get us to the fifth inning and to still have a chance at winning, and that's only on his good days. Our division is going to tee of on this guy like he's a pitching coach at the home run contest.

Mills has only thrown 66 innings above low-A. He is clearly not ready to be a Major League contributor yet. Richmond is what he is. It is safer to just let Richmond start every 5th day until Cecil/Mills is ready, rather than rush a pitcher who would be in over his head at the MLB level.

well i was saying that it wasn't fair in the sense that the 5th spot was to be determined by the performance of both respective pitchers in their final outing. They made the decision after Mills' bad performance without having Richmond have his "audition".
