Booooooooooo...
Seriously though, I hate this. The team is obviously in rebuild mode, even more so if Cano doesn't re-sign. Everything needs to change.
I was kinda sorta hoping they could have gotten a guy like Jason Giambi (if he plans on retiring), since he's become a great clubhouse guy, but I don't know much about his legacy in New York after the steroid debacle. I was also hoping the Phillies wouldn't remove the interim tag from Ryne Sandberg and that he'd split for the Yanks, but that didn't work either.
The worst thing is that the FO is terribly complacent, and I'm willing to wager a large amount of money that Girardi goes these full four seasons because management will be afraid to fire him.
I also have this odd feeling that if Cano doesn't come back, Cashman's days in the Bronx are numbered, though I wouldn't be that upset if he left.
I just want this franchise to realize it's not all rainbows and unicorns anymore. There's no Mo, very little gas left in Jeet and a pretty clear trend in the league of exorbitant amounts of cash not buying happiness, or success.
Strip this team down and build like it's the early 90s. The Boss' ghost won't haunt the stadium, I promise.
