Joe Girardi re-signs with Yankees

Post#1 » by Mamba Mentality » Wed Oct 9, 2013 7:41 pm

Joe Girardi has signed a four-year contract to return as the New York Yankees' manager, the team announced Wednesday.

Girardi, whose previous deal was set to expire on Oct. 31, is scheduled to address reporters during a conference call at 4 p.m. ET.

The Yankees did not disclose financial details of the contract, but a source told ESPNNewYork.com's Andrew Marchand that the deal is worth $16 million and includes postseason bonuses. Girardi made $3 million this season.

Girardi probably didn't even entertain other offers considering how fast that was done. Cubs keep losing.

Blech...

Another four years of horribly managed bullpens and complacent lineups.

I just don't understand the love for this guy as a manager. But hey as a Red Sox fan nice to see him back.

Brad Ausmus isn't putting in his bid for jobs?

Cubs need to give him a call.

Booooooooooo...

Seriously though, I hate this. The team is obviously in rebuild mode, even more so if Cano doesn't re-sign. Everything needs to change.

I was kinda sorta hoping they could have gotten a guy like Jason Giambi (if he plans on retiring), since he's become a great clubhouse guy, but I don't know much about his legacy in New York after the steroid debacle. I was also hoping the Phillies wouldn't remove the interim tag from Ryne Sandberg and that he'd split for the Yanks, but that didn't work either.

The worst thing is that the FO is terribly complacent, and I'm willing to wager a large amount of money that Girardi goes these full four seasons because management will be afraid to fire him.

I also have this odd feeling that if Cano doesn't come back, Cashman's days in the Bronx are numbered, though I wouldn't be that upset if he left.

I just want this franchise to realize it's not all rainbows and unicorns anymore. There's no Mo, very little gas left in Jeet and a pretty clear trend in the league of exorbitant amounts of cash not buying happiness, or success.

Strip this team down and build like it's the early 90s. The Boss' ghost won't haunt the stadium, I promise.

I am surprised (kind of) that he stayed.

The Yankees may have a rough road for the next year or two.

giardi isnt the problem with the team

the team has no farm, cant draft, wont sign IFA, and has mismanaged prospects....that is all on the FO (specifically cashman who should be fired)

giardi is great at managing the players, rotating them thru to rest the vets, and has shown he can put competitive fighting team out there with limited assets (yanks last year due to injuries, and his year with the marlins)

is he the best man for job? who knows, but the yanks have such huge internal system problems that need rectified b4 worrying about manager

While I agree with everything you said about how badly the team has been handled internally, the change has to start from the ground up. I believe that starts with Girardi.

He is absolutely dreadful during late game situations, in terms of in game management. He does keep the clubhouse light and gives the old guys a rest, but something drastic needs to be done.

it should, but that would mean firing the gm and the scouting people (which I would agree with)

firing giardi doesnt help their farm, signing IFA, drafting right, developing players right, etc
