Williamson docked pay for Attending Funeral?!?!??!
Via wiretap.
What an absolute crock of ****!!!!
"Childress cited the cases of two players, Minnesota defensive tackle Pat Williams and Indianapolis wide receiver Reggie Wayne, who appeared in games shortly after the deaths of family members."
Wow.. What does that matter? Each person handles death differently.. I cannot believe the NFL allows this kind of **** to happen.
With that said Williamson is a huge bust.

They won the game.
And it's Troy Williamson we're talking about. The entire Vikings wide receiver corps could not show up, and the chances of it affecting the outcome are astronomically small.
Personally, I think every cent that goes to Williamson is one cent too much, so I'm fine with this, even if it stinks of insensitivity.

you cannot be serious, nobody thinks of death when they're sitting down ready to sign a contract. usually you would operate under the assumption that people are compassionate and understanding enough for you to spend the time needed with your family.

i did not know of that, but that is classless. Childress seems like he has no heart or consideration. I agree with the other person who said they should just pay him the 25,000 cause it really is nothing to the team, they probably made millions off the game itself.

From the article.
The Minnesota Vikings have docked wide receiver Troy Williamson one game check for missing last Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers to attend the Monday funeral of his maternal grandmother.
Williamson's maternal grandmother, who helped to raise him and with whom he was very close, died last week and he returned to South Carolina, where he played a large role in arranging her funeral. He also had to make travel arrangements for several of his siblings, some of whom are in the armed services. He returned to the team on Wednesday as the Vikings began practicing for this Sunday's game against Green Bay.
Quote from Williamson:
I don't care if they would have [taken] my pay for the rest of the year, I was going home," Williamson told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "It wouldn't have mattered to me."
Just really classless from the Vikings.

not to play devil's advocate here, but i don't know how many of you get grievance leave from your jobs; many of us do not. if i had to leave work for a funeral i would have to take time off. if i had no PTO saved up i would not be paid for the time i missed. since there really is no "time off" for pro athletes i can understand the vikings stance. you'd think they'd be more compassionate/reasonable here, but i don't think it's classless.

that's true, but you gotta see the difference between a regular job and a NFL one. you missing a day of work equals the loss of about 1/250 of your yearly salary. a nfl player missing a day of work equals the loss of 1/16 of his yearly salary.
