What gets me are the people who think we would've won it all in 1987 even if we made it past the ECF.

It would have been a much closer series than it was with Boston. But I agree that the Lakers were in top form.

88 Pistons. Because they DID win it, its just that one ref forgot you really need to assault someone to get a foul called in the last minute.
Then Rasheed not closing out on Horry's three pointer. It still gives me nightmares.
As someone mentioned, 5 titles were so close. And possibly 6 without the Bird steal, though granted that's more of a stretch.

(Looks at link)
Is it the same garbage system that concludes Andre Drummond to be the 7th best Piston of all-time?

it's not... it's mainly the team's margin of victory.
* edited my post to take out my rambling about SRS.

it's not... but i really don't like SRS. the formula is literally margin of victory (MOV) + strength of schedule (SOS). the problem with it is that strength of schedule is a z-score while margin of victory isn't, so the strength of schedule barely impacts the MOV in the equation.
i'm not going to pretend i'd know a better way of factoring in the strength of schedule but the SRS ranks are almost identical to simple margin of victory.
Yeah. All I know is that neither '87 nor '05 even made the list. So whatever it calculates, it's not best team. Worthless.

yeah.. it's also based on the regular season so teams that coast until the playoffs start aren't going to look as dominant as they are. the 2005 pistons had just won a ring and i'm sure saved some energy for the playoffs. in the playoffs they had the best net rating (highly correlates to SRS), most pythagorean wins, etc.
that's kind of backed up by them making it to the finals and pushing the series to 7 games. i'd personally have them as one of the best pistons teams not to win a ring.

I honestly liked our 07-08 team a lot. We just ran into a really damn good celtics team.

Malice at the Palace was a serious wrinkle through much of the season.
