Lol. I'm honestly not convinced Stan wants him back, nothing to do with my thoughts on his game, I just sense this.

I agree. svg wants a 4 that can spread the floor. hes probably going all in for Love

If Love opts out it's because he's going to the Lakers.

It was a joke...but why would he go after Draymond he doesn't even shoot the 3 better than KCP and people complain he can't shoot.

It all comes down to stan and moose, only stan knows if he wants to keep moose or if he has another idea about who he wants to go after. Also teams are going to go after moose, make no mistake about that, whoever needs a center. It also comes down to monroe wanting to stay,I think he will if the teams interested nyk/la are the ones wanting him,I dont think he wants to repeat the last 2 yrs he had here with another team and wait for them to be in the position we are now.Weather or not he stays or goes, his story will be the biggest news for det in the off season.

If NYK draft Okafor I think that takes them out of the race to sign Greg. ATL would seem like a candidate but I think they try to keep Millsap to keep their team together cause they're already a top team in the league. I see no reason for him to go to LA unless they attract a big name player. DC might be a team to look out for but I'm not sure of what their cap space situation is. I think we have a good chance to resign him. We can give the most money and probably biggest role also we have shown him we aren't scared to make moves to make the team better.

I'd imagine the Spurs are the darkhorse for Monroe.

Assuming Duncan and Manu retire they should have the space to grab Monroe then retain Leonard and Green.

Or won't they have the space?

Monroe will be courted by the losers for Okafor and Gasol. That may take time. The goal is to find that key FA asap and then resign our own RFAs or when/if they walk use the freed cap space for plan B. At least you can find someone with 10mil but 5mil is a 10th man type player.

Im going to take a guess that Butler was paid upfront for 2 yrs with his 5mil. I could see him coming back for min or something close to DJ type money. He was overpaid in 2014 with the understanding he would be taking a pay cut in 2015.

I'm of the opinion that Stan will have his SF in mind already, like the Meeks scenario.

We have scouts galore, bank rolled by Gores for things like this.

Come midnight July 1st I imagine Stan gets his man, then retains Monroe and let's the process play out with Jackson.

Monroe could hold a large chunk of our cap hostage while he negotiates with other teams... this could cost the team some other opportunities.

While he's negotiating only his cap hold is a problem.

Him costing us opportunities is the worst case scenario and while it's nice to he informed I'm a little more positive

18.6M in cap space. More than enough to sign two quality players.

I say..

1) Spend the majority of the 18.6M on Wesley Matthews and Danny Green.
2) Go over the cap to re-sign Jackson and Monroe. Get Tolliver and Anthony back, if you can. (MLE?, LLE?, vet min?)
3) Draft a stretch-4, like Bobby Portis.

C: Drummond, Monroe, Anthony
PF: Portis, Tolliver
SF: Matthews, C-Pope, Martin
SG: Green, Meeks
PG: Jackson, Jennings, Dinwiddie

*Monroe, of course, would be the starter. But I'd hope that we can find a stretch-4 in the draft who at least splits minutes with him in the front court.

Great two-man game going with Drummond and Jackson. Great shooters on the wings, and hopefully at the 4, spreading out the court and giving them room to operate. Very sound defensively, and character-wise. Great 3rd big man in Monroe. Great backup point in Jennings. We'll see what KCP gives us off the bench in year three. Tolliver and Meeks giving you shooting off the bench. Anthony a fine 3rd big.

That'd be a team that contends in the East, I believe.

No way we're going over the cap by 25M+
Also, no reason to have 4 shooting guards on the roster AND Jackson and Jennings at the point.

No, that wouldn't be possible, Reid. There are many variables depending on contract options, but I think it's a fairly safe assumption that the Pistons will go into July 1 with about $38.5 million salary commitments based on three assumptions I'm making: (1) Reggie Jackson's cap hold of $5.5 million; (2) picking up Anthony Tolliver's option at $3 million and (3) declining Caron Butler's option at $4.5 million, and that last one is very much up in the air. I have not included Greg Monroe's cap hold of roughly $10 million, but the Pistons surely will not renounce their rights to him until they know what is happening with his free agency. If you count both Jackson and Monroe's cap holds – and assuming a salary cap of somewhere around $66 milliion – then the Pistons would have about $18 million in cap space. Without Monroe's cap hold, that goes to $28 million. Let's say, for the sake of argument, the Pistons sign one max player with a first-year salary of $16.5 million (25 percent, the maximum contract for a player with less than seven years of experience). The Pistons would have a little more than $1 million in cap space left. If they felt at that point that Monroe was going elsewhere but they had a chance to sign another very good free agent, they could renounce Monroe's rights and sign a player for a first-year salary of around $12 million, if they so chose, taking them right up to the salary cap. And then they could sign Jackson, exceeding the cap to do so. Last week's trades did very little to change their cap picture for this off-season. They shed D.J. Augustin's $3 million and Kyle Singler's cap hold of $1.4 million and took back Jackson's cap hold of $5.5 million
