Stan thought he could get through to Josh. No doubt Josh told him everything he wanted to hear in their discussions this summer. It didn't work. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to resurrect the deal with the Kings but it seems their interest has moved on to D-Will.
The same people killing Stan for not doing the Kings deal would have been killing him had he done it and Smith actually clicked on the Kings. Stan thought he could make the 3 big rotation work. Even after last year, many people on here bought into his ability to do just that before the season started. Some people are just going to complain.
It's not about complaining it's about what was better for this team going forward
If Stan takes Thompson/Williams in the summer, we start off this season fresh without Smith's toxic attitude and behavior and have the identical cap room situation going forward with Thompson being a reserve off the bench
Gores also saves 10M
The right move was trading Josh last offseason. Change the culture, save Gores money over this move, and get us a decent reserve when are going to pay 5M for no one going forward anyways. If Thompson played like crap we sit him or trade him.
Im happy Smith is finally off the team and give Gores props for waiving him but SVG looks like a moron for not making the deal in the summer in the first place.
One thing is for sure, we woudnt be sitting at 5-23 right now fighting the Knicks, Sixers, Celtics, Lakers, Minny for a top 5 pick which we wont end up with anyways. We just threw away this season and most likely wont be bad enough to get a good pick which sucks
