He went for blocks and steals, but he didn't play good defense.

Neptune wrote:@Snakebite and @MotownMadness: Smith/Drummond is/was the number one duo in the league when it comes to block parties in the paint. So, yes I guess you can say the occasional blocks consistitues as good defense.
I'm probably the minority like always, but I think Smith made Drummond tougher too.

Nobody knows how bad things got behind the scenes leading up to this, and we probably never will.
The important thing is that he's gone.

Stan thought he could get through to Josh. No doubt Josh told him everything he wanted to hear in their discussions this summer. It didn't work. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to resurrect the deal with the Kings but it seems their interest has moved on to D-Will.
The same people killing Stan for not doing the Kings deal would have been killing him had he done it and Smith actually clicked on the Kings. Stan thought he could make the 3 big rotation work. Even after last year, many people on here bought into his ability to do just that before the season started. Some people are just going to complain.
It's not about complaining it's about what was better for this team going forward
If Stan takes Thompson/Williams in the summer, we start off this season fresh without Smith's toxic attitude and behavior and have the identical cap room situation going forward with Thompson being a reserve off the bench
Gores also saves 10M
The right move was trading Josh last offseason. Change the culture, save Gores money over this move, and get us a decent reserve when are going to pay 5M for no one going forward anyways. If Thompson played like crap we sit him or trade him.
Im happy Smith is finally off the team and give Gores props for waiving him but SVG looks like a moron for not making the deal in the summer in the first place.
One thing is for sure, we woudnt be sitting at 5-23 right now fighting the Knicks, Sixers, Celtics, Lakers, Minny for a top 5 pick which we wont end up with anyways. We just threw away this season and most likely wont be bad enough to get a good pick which sucks

Smith proves that claim is false. Absolutely.

They're certainly not mutually exclusive concepts, that's for sure. The Penguin wrote:Some people think blocks and steals mean good defense, others think it means stat padding and blowing assignments.

It gives me a certain feeling of kinship with the guy that I didn't necessarily have before.
I also find myself respecting Gores more on a personal level too. He has come a long way from being the guy who made us cough up a first rounder rather than amnestying Ben Gordon. He's grown as an owner.
Stay the course, SVG. Stay the course.

When he took this job, SVG said he wouldn't make any major personnel moves until he knew what he had; think about what that actually says about Josh Smith, 'cuz as soon as he felt he comfortably knew what he had in Smith (less then two months into the season) he WAIVED him. I think the encouraging bottom line here is that SVG wants, and is demanding, different results, and he's not afraid to be bold to get what he wants.
Sidetone — with SVG declaring a mandate of "developing our young players," I'd be shocked if Dinwiddie didn't get a serious crack as our starting PG during the second half of the season. The rest of this year is all gonna be about developing and assessing the young guys, and it's pretty clear that neither Jennings nor Augustin is our PGOTF; might as well give the rookie some run to see what we've got in him.
