Re: WOJBomb - Stanley Johnson for Thon Maker
I guess we don't need 3 OR D.
Either Kennards a future AllStar or we are about to see some major tanking going on.
Who wins a championship first?
Tobias with Philly?
Bullock with Lakers?
Stanley with Milwaukee?

You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Doesn't Thon have a longer contract than Stanley?

Svi is a 2/3, we'll probably use him as a SF. Stanley was playing fair amount of four at one point as well.

One more year which would put him in line with everyone else

He can't run. He looks like he should be able to run, but he's pretty slow.
He isn't quick. Again, he's skinny, so it looks like he's going to be quick, but he isn't.
He can kinda shoot. 33% from 3 this year and lifetime. Not bad for a 7 footer, but nothing to get excited about

Svi has barely cracked NBA playing time. I doubt he will be used much if at all.

Yes but it reduces our wiggle room under the luxury tax for next year, though it does increase that wiggle room a little bit this year.
I don't understand.

I like the trade. I wasn’t interested in keeping SJ next season anyway, and we trade him for a cheap backup C that could have marginal upside.
Also like the Bullock trade. Again, he likely would have left in the offseason, and got a cheap young player in return and a future 2nd. Above all else, these moves make us worse this season, potentially landing us a good lottery pick. Would have been nice to possibly get more for these guys, but I’m not that bothered by the return.

2) We are stockpiling contracts that expire next offseason (Svi has a team option).
3) Not paying Bullock and Stanley says to me that Stefanski is wisely changing the way this franchise manages its cap sheet — much like Boston, it’s gonna be high paid stars (Blake, Dre, fill in the blank star acquired in the next year with all that expiring money) surrounded by cheap talent. No more $7M - $10M bench and role players, which is what it would’ve cost to re-up Bullock or Johnson; you get that production from guys on cheap rookie deals and spend your money on stars.

I like the thinking, but it's a thin crop - Draymond, Lowry, player options for Derozan and Porter. I think that's about it.
Cap space / expiring deals can equal trade opportunities; just look at the KP deal for a very recent example. I think that’s the route Stefanski takes.

How much longer do I have to wait for RJ to be dumped? I've been waiting since the day he signed.

Not sure, I could see the value of our expirings next year as to where this year it would almost be hard to replace with our cap being through the rough

Re: WOJBomb - Stanley Johnson for Thon Maker
Honestly the thing I'm most depressed about is how much Langston Galloway we're likely to see following these trades.
I favored dealing Johnson when I thought we'd at least get a pick or something for him. With this move I feel like I'd rather we just ride out the year and let SJ expire. It's just not a good move.

This doesn't make sense given Stanley makes more than Maker so we net gained more space with the Bucks swap and it had nothing to do with space opened up with Bullock trade.
And if he's talking about next year we're still $15M under the tax now and Bullock would have made more on the open market as a UFA.
Good point, I just asked him to clarify that. We'll see if he responds..

Thon is unquestionably 4 years older than his listed age. He completed 4 years of high school in Perth Australia, and then repeated 4 years of high school in Canada.
There is a thread on the Bucks board that has visual evidence of the Australia yearbooks. I'm sure it can also be found on reddit.

How can it be a bad move? If there's any chance Maker is a role player we win in this scenario. Stanley was probably not going to be offered the QO. He was walking out for nothing which is what you said you want. I don't agree. I think Stefanski is doing what he can to keep assets. I'll take it.

So he's 25? Means he's just entering his prime. That's bad haha. I hope he can stay on the court. He'll get plenty of time on our team.

I don’t think Maker has that shot. All were really looking at is being on the hook financially for another year. Maker may not even get playing time over Zaza. Ask Bucks fans how they feel about being rid of him.
