Exceptional class. My order:
Updated 2/11
1. Sheldon Richardson-Missouri
2. Sharrif Floyd-Florida
3. Star Lotulelei-Utah
4. Jonathan Hankins-Ohio State
5. Sylvester Williams-North Carolina
6. Jesse Williams-Alabama
7. John Jenkins-Georgia
8. Brandon Williams-Missouri Southern
9. Kawann Short-Purdue
10. Montori Hughes-Tennessee-Martin
I would probably bump Sylvester Williams over Hankins at this point, and Brandon Williams is clearly>>John Jenkins. I've watched more Jesse Williams since then too and I came away less impressed. Must edit my ratings board...
Floyd, Richardson, and Star (if his heart checks out) are top 15 locks. Absolute locks. S. Williams is going top 25 more than likely, certainly top 35. The Viking LOVE him and guess what, they just got an extra 1st. All four of those guys have annual Pro Bowl potential. If Richardson clicks with his coaches he's better than Gerald McCoy.
Floyd is versatile enough to play 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT. Richardson can do that to some extent but Floyd is better for it. B. Williams is a rock solid NT, plays like Kris Jenkins used to in CAR. Montori Hughes is loquacious, stout, and nasty as a 1-technique. Kawann Short is a 2-gap penetrator, ideal for an attacking 4-3 front.
Most likely to flop is absolutely Jenkins. People think he's a nose because he weighs around 345. He's not tough or stout inside though; he's a grossly overweight 4-3 DE in the way he plays. I like him if he can get down to about 325 and play 3-technique, but I don't think either will happen for him. Has a Tommie Kelly mentality too, effort comes and goes but when he's dialed in he's still real effective.
